A Look at the First 10 Days of the Community Forums

August 22, 2011 — 14 Comments

Nearly 10 days ago I launched the new TentBlogger Community Forum and it’s been a whirlwind of activity! So far we’ve had 150+ people sign up (with nearly 40 of those being Premium Members) and over 500+ posts!

I’ve been an unbelievable first week and a half and the most amazing thing is that I’ve been relatively uninvolved in the organic growth since I decided to launch the forums right before a week-long vacation!

This wasn’t necessarily a test for the community to pass or anything like that but you can imagine how crazy-encouraged I was to see so much conversation and community begin to form without me being fully present among them!

This means that it’s truly scoping out to be a community-powered forum and is going to be an amazing place to learn, grow, and build community!

As such, I’m going to keep my lower price for joining until the end of the month to see if I can give even more value to those that are committed to grow their blogs in this passionate community forum instead of closing down the intro price today.

So please, if you’re even remotely interested in joining a place where you can get your questions answered about blogging, build some seriously-helpful community around your efforts as a blogger, and generally have a good time around the ever-growing “watercooler” then consider jumping in soon!

And just for kicks, here are some of the main forums that we’re already populating with great content and I’ve already posted my first Monthly Challenge (it’s an easy but necessary one) for the community to engage with!

Hope to see you there! Cheers!

Oh, and finally, we have our first “mini game” with some of our members actively “gunning” for the neat title changes as related to the number of times they post – a few have made it into the Curious Member level!

  • n00b! – 0
  • Curious Member – 30
  • Not Too Unfamiliar – 80
  • A Contributor – 150
  • Almost a Regular – 250
  • Has Been Around – 500
  • A Regular – 1000
  • Super Awesome – 2000
  • Insanely Helpful – 5000
  • EPIC – 10000
  • ROFLCOPTER – 25000
  • Toasty – 50000

(These are subject to change, by the way – I created them off the cuff!)

  1. Of course I had to be online when you took the screen print! Flippin’ typical!

  2. Been having a good time. Great community to be a part of.

  3. Hey,

Your stuff is absolutely gold I must say. I don’t even really blog yet and I love reading your stuff.

I am in sales though and was wondering if you do any sales copy for things like emails and flyer’s? If you do shoot me an email on your rates and if you don’t could you recommend anyone that brings your quality to the sales world.

    Thanks,

    Jonathan

  4. John,

Congrats on getting the forum up and running so quick. I’ve seen a lot of people attempt at starting up a forum. They usually fail at the part where they need to get people to sign up. Impressive stats considering it’s only been up a little more than 10 days.

    Cheers,
    Ben

  5. Hi, John! This forum is a great idea, and I’m looking forward to being more involved.

I have one suggestion, and this sort of reveals my own dummy-ness. I hadn’t been to this site in a couple of weeks and so I didn’t know about the forum; I just saw it in the menu up-top and thought “hey, cool, a forum!” and joined. I couldn’t figure out what I was supposed to do after that in order to access the premium content.

Yes, yes, I know: the directions are in the emails that are auto-generated. I figured that out.

But I think it might be good to put something at the top of the forum itself explaining how amazing it is and that you get all this for the low, low price of $4.99/month – that kind of thing. So that a person who may be new to the site and unfamiliar with how forums work would understand going in that it was a premium membership model.

I speak on behalf of the untold millions of users who don’t read directions.

    • dorian,

      you’re right… i do have this:

      but you think something more?

      • Welll…it’s kind of embarrassing to be all, “that didn’t work for me, because I am so oblivious,” but – yes. I may be wrong, but I’m thinking there’s not anything in the FAQ’s about the premium membership. And, to me, “Get more access” connotes “you can also subscribe to my blog, contact me, follow me on Facebook,” etc. I think you need something banner-ish at the top, or maybe just a sentence explaining that this is a premium forum, low low price, etc.

  6. Definitely agree with Dorian! Bummed that my baby-induced sluggishness seems to have meant I missed out on the discounted rate! :-(
