The Best Keyword Research Tool for Google Adsense

November 11, 2011 — 18 Comments

This will prove to be a very simple, short, and straight-forward blog post: You will need a keyword research tool to help you navigate the elements of good keyword research and that tool is Google’s Adwords Keyword Tool.

Sure, there are tons of so-called “premium” keyword research tools out there that will cost you money but I have found myself going back to this free one over and over and over again. As a result, I think it’s the best and most definitely the best bang for your buck.

The number one reason that I feel it’s the best (besides that it’s free) is that it has proven to be highly accurate – in fact, more accurate than even some paid tools that I’ve used in the past, especially when it comes to Google Adsense.

So, there you have it. Have a ball and keep this in your back-pocket as we continue to move forward through the Adsense Series!

Rock on.

  1. Awesome.

Just so I understand though, does this Adwords keyword tool primarily use keywords that are attached to Google ads?

Here is why I ask…another tool I use is Google Insights for Search, which does a great job helping me see what people are searching for. However, there is some disparity between Google Insights and Google Adwords.

My conclusion has been that if I want to connect content to available ads, use Adwords, but if I want to connect content to what people are searching for on Google, use Google Insights. Is this right?

  2. John, in your most humble but awesome opinion, what “monthly search count” would qualify for a desirable search?

For example, if I searched “red race cars” in order to determine if this would be a good topic for a blog, what would be considered a desirable amount of monthly searches/traffic in order to generate a reasonable blog following?

Also, what does Low, Medium, and High mean?

    • Hi Charles..
I am trying to answer your question….
There is a link between Monthly Search and Competition for keywords that is represented by Google Adwords.

If you search for “Red Race Cars” and if it show you Medium in competition and 25000 in Monthly search that means

For this keyqword there is average monthly search is 25000 but it doesn’t mean that every month this keywords hits the google search for 25000 times. This average is based on 12 month hits collection.

Low/Medium/High denotes the competition for this keyword. Choose any High competition keyword and search it in google you will see that first 10-20 result are from High Rank Sites and their article is highly optimized for that keyword so you will face a tight competition for that keyword (if you write an article using that keyword).

Best guideline is use keywords which is having Low competition and reasonable monthly search count (let 1000 count per month). As competition is low for that keyword so chance of getting ranked in first page will be high.

  8. It is a little bit of extra work compared to those paid for software that does all the searching for you (like competition, competing sites etc) but the Keyword Tool is free and probably the best way to go for entry and mid level bloggers who can’t throw away with money just to win a couple of hours :)

  9. I wish i new the ratio or parameters of the low, medium, and high. It gives a little decimal point value but i am not sure what that means.
