Interview: Blane Young, 6 Months and $120 In!

November 23, 2010 — 40 Comments

I had the pleasure of interviewing Blane Young and talking about what the last 6 months have looked like as a new blogger. Blane is a unique and refreshing voice that’s been around this community since the beginning and has already begun creating a brand for himself. He’s also honest and authentic which is going to reap him rewards with his developing community long-term.

Here are some highlights of our 15 minute talk that you’ll want to make note of:

  • Blane quit after 3 weeks. Listen how he recovered and what he learned from it.
  • He’s gotten his first advertiser and has made $120 from using one of the monetization strategies already. He’s got some great advice for people looking to do the same.
  • Focusing his content

[Like the quality of the screencast? I use the Screenflow app for it!]

One of the most encouraging things that I noted offline after we had finished the interview was that Blane’s got a unquenchable thirst to learn more, and I have found this to be an important characteristic of any blogger who’s interested in making some money via their blogs.

You have to experiment, create realistic and challenging goals, and then learn to celebrate the wins!

Blane’s got the right stuff to make it and although he’s got a number of things he can do better (as we all do) he’s on the right track.

[Note: I have no idea why my screen in the video was so small. I'll have to figure that one out. I was using Skype, so if anyone has any tips, I'd love to hear them!]

  15. Blane,
I am into your video interview – just 5 minutes; and you are so refreshing on a cold and rainy day in the midwest (I am visiting Missouri from the sunshine state of Florida). Your energy and enthusiasm and honesty are endearing. “…make money and buy kool stuff.” Now that is honest.
