Blog Post Jump Starter #8

Energy! Excitement! Blogging!

Need a bit of a boost this weekend? Need an idea to write about because you’re feeling a bit dry?

Here’s something that I’ve been thinking about recently that would be a good topic for you to explore via a blog post.

What does “good enough” mean to you? How do you define it and how does it impact your blogging?

Please share your links in the comments if you write about it!

For me I’ve learned that I can never have a blog post that is “good enough” for publishing – there is always something that I want to write better or something that needs editing or even a better picture or media file that needs to be added.

The point is that I publish imperfect and unfinished blog posts every single day! There’s not a single one here on this blog that I feel is “final” or “complete” in any way, shape, or form!

But, I’ve learned to get through that anxiety and hit the blue “Publish” button over and over and over again. It doesn’t get any easier but I’ve trained my stubby asian fingers to move my mouse over to the right and hit it, even when I don’t feel like it.

“Good enough” for me is hitting the publish button and not so much about a finished blog post!

How about you?

John

  1. I have similar feelings but I use the phrase “good enough” to give myself permission to hit the publish button. I am a perfectionist at heart. That combined with my creative bent means I can always find a way to improve my work. However, the time comes when I declare, “Good enough,” and I launch it out into cyberspace.

BTW, John, as a blog writer who just started in January, I find your posts very helpful and encouraging. Thanks and keep hitting that blue publish button, please.

  2. Drafting a post. Got the intro, and image with a great caption, and the topic. Will write more and publish tonight during my set-aside time for blogging.

BTW if anyone has time they can check out a post I did about being “Good for nothing” on my mobile blog here: http://ledmobile.posterous.com/post/1187910117

  3. This post helped me write something for today: http://bigb94.wordpress.com/2011/05/14/character/

  4. I have so many “almost good enough but not ready” posts drafted, it’s kind of depressing.

John, after I read your blog today, I had to finish an important one and launch it, ready or not. http://www.robstill.com/missions-trip-to-eastern-europe-2011/

Thanks for the inspiration and encouragement.

  5. Good enough for me is whatever I can create today. I’ve committed to “shipping” on a daily basis, so as I ship more often, my “good enough” gets better.

  6. Two things I look for before I hit publish:
    1. Flow: If people can read my post without being jolted by a poor transition or a thought out of left-field.
    2. Point: If people can read my blog post and then clearly communicate the point I was trying to communicate.

  7. I wrote something right away when I saw this one, John!

    Thanks for the idea!

    Thank you very much!
