A Few Experiments Towards a New TentBlogger Brand

***Please note that this post is entirely a joke. Some of the comments look like it was interpreted as a real branding exercise. Apologies!***

As you can see above the following “experiments” were created by my partners at 8BIT who believed that I needed to take my TentBlogger brand to the “next level.”

They believe that I have yet to fully realize the potential of what TentBlogger can be and that one of the things that I needed to do was to really “land” on what my brand identity should be.

Here are a few more of their drafts:

I really couldn’t decide which one was the best because all of them were such strong candidates. So, I leave that up to you, my faithful community to help me decide which brand I should begin to move forward with in gusto.

Please cast your vote and add your thoughts in the comments below.

It’s so good to have friends who “get” you so well, right? I’m so happy to call those guys my “friends.” … … … … … …

  1. “tentbrogger.” ….let me guess…….Jared?

  2. maybe to literal but, I gotta go with the tent…facemelter #2 just cuz

  3. Just a thought from me… The top (new-tentblogger-branding-1) was my first choice for you and my best choice is the (new-tentblogger-branding-5), the trash can w/ paper and face, this one portrays comic strips inside your blog.

  4. Maybe I’m just too left brained but the only one I “get” is the one with the tent.

    • I’m with you, Mark. I think there is only one that is actually relevant. Or, would make sense to a first timer. I don’t really ‘get’ a lot of the other ones. In terms of design, however, they are beautiful.

      • Ugh, my comment in all its brilliance, didn’t post. Grr.

I basically said that I think all these are jokes, which is kind of harsh to do to your audience without calling it out.

Also, remember a logo doesn’t equal a brand. It is representative of a brand, not the brand itself.

  5. Pumpkin lobster. The RSS Tent is way too plausible to be included in this mix.

  6. First, let me say that I love your blog and read all your posts. I really appreciate the wealth of information you provide, and I like your voice in presenting it.

    Now, about the brand/logo ideas…

Hmmmm. Maybe we are just too old and uncool to get the hipness or whatever is supposed to be going on here. My wife and I understand the meaning of “tent” in your brand (tent maker), but that’s not a common meaning outside of certain groups, and even I would never have known that was your meaning without reading your About page. So my humble opinion is that working against that, you need a logo (and, more importantly, a good log line) which communicates what you are all about.

You call these, drafts, so maybe they would be neater in the final version. All seem rather sketchy now.

The first one… we have no idea what that is. And sorry to say, the first guess that comes to mind is something yucky in the back yard attracting flies.

The Broadcasting Tent… I think that, if anything, this reinforces a possible misunderstanding that you blog while camping, about camping, or about using technology while camping. Also the font makes the “t” of “tent” look like an “f.”

The Flag one… too scribbly to take seriously. And what’s with the Japanese flag? What does that have to do with your brand? It would confuse. And the “brogger” will offend some people, I’m sure.

The Face Meltor… don’t get it, especially with the -or spelling. It makes me go “Huh?!”

Trash can… again, what is this supposed to be saying? Something is found in the trash? About recycling? About going through trash cans?

The pumpkin lobster man… again, I have no idea what this is supposed to mean, or why I would be interested in a blog illustrated by it.

  7. Dude, I love reading your posts on my phone. This one came up, and since I couldn’t see the pictures from my phone, I popped in. LOVING THESE!! Totally cracked me up! I personally think you should do the idea out of the trashcan branding!!
These are so funny, do something with them. The makers of these really had a good time with these, I can see.
I need some branding, do you think they would work with me? :-)

  8. How about a cartoon version of you standing on the keyboard of a very large laptop that looks like a stage for keynote speaking, and the floor you are standing on is a keyboard with the letters lit “tentblogger.” The screen will have a small camera at the top of course and the screen could have a list of all of your current top blog posts.
