I’m no expert when it comes to such things are marketing and branding, as typically understood in industry standards, and I’ve never held a job where the core role and responsibility were those two things exclusively so if you’re looking for a textbook overview then you’ve come to the wrong place pal!
But, I do know a thing or two when it comes to personal branding online, or the art and science of managing your online equity in a way that’s comprehensive, accurate, fair and naturally a good representation of who you are and who you want to ultimately attract.
What you can expect in this series is a look at how I think globally about my online personal brand, the tools and techniques that I use to manage and control it, how I curate positive feedback and how I dismantle the negative, and how leverage it as a tool for conversion for my business and financial bottom line.
I hope you enjoy! Here’s a loose table of contents that I’ll be following:

…I’ve been researching and trying to create a personal brand for a few months now. My biggest challenge is managing it all. A “personal branding 101″ would be great
I just totally changed my “brand” about three weeks ago, so I’m looking forward to this series. I’d like to see:
1. How to maintain the brand.
2. How to promote the brand
3. How to accelerate the brand
4. How to find followers who would be attracted to our brand
5. How to positively “narrow” or solidify my brand
i think we’ll definitely get to some of these.
awesome. how is the series going so far do you think?
how about “what not to do” I know there are certain things you need to do right from the beginning or else it will cause issues down the road. A good example is http://checkusernames.com/, it allows you to check your desired username across multiple social media outlets and lets you know if it’s available or not.
Matt, great link! If only they let you register for all these sites at once! #someonesmartinventthis
i honestly don’t do this actually.
good list John, looking forward to the series and learning more! thank you again for the branding/landing pages you’ve provided, i updated mine recently…

thanks chris!
I can’t for the new blog series! Ready to go to the school of John.
how do you think it’s going so far?
So excited for this series!! I also want to thank you for all of your awesome advice and your site in general. I am now working with a wordpress.org blog and I just got my first offer to review someone’s travel product
exciting things I couldn’t have done without your help! Now I just need to think through the next series for my blog… any ideas? lol
awesome! congrats!
Sounds like an awesome series. Can’t wait to dive into it.
How about a section on “Fixing mistakes you made in the past”
I’m sure we have all made some gaffes in the past. Posted something we shouldn’t have. Flamed someone in a message board.
What do we do to minimize the damage that could cause?
this is a great idea. let me think about it.
Sweet, I can see it being an interesting topic.
What a coincidence, I just posted about this today on my blog.I mentioned today that I keep a branding kit on my computer that contains everything I need to keep my profiles synced with graphics and bio information. This is a topic people should be serious about. Can’t wait to see what you have to say
awesome! hope I’m not duplicating much of your work!
I would love to see a post, maybe a guest post from Eric Dye, specifically touching on how missionaries can create a proper online brand that gives them the step up needed for people to support their ministries around the world, in resources and prayer. Thanks!
ah, i’ve pinged him.
I’m excited! I feel ill-equipped in blazing the trail for our organization in the online spaces. Even if you’re going to talk about personal branding, I’m pretty sure there are principles to be gleaned.
awesome! thanks thelma! how do you think the series is going right now?
