Catalyst: Dallas is coming up in a few weeks and my friend Brad Lomenick has graciously offered 5 Free Tickets to the event to our community!
There’s not much that you need to do other than the following:
- Comment below about your thoughts on “being present.”
- Tweet this post for another entry.
- Like this post on Facebook for another entry.
Note: It’s coming up fast so I have to pick a winner by this weekend!

Being present is something we take for granted. our presence in a place does not mean we are present in that place. We need to engage and be a part of what is happening around us to change anything.
I’ve always wanted to hit Catalyst but have not yet had an opportunity. Would love to check it out.
Being present is something that I have had to work on a lot this year and still have much more learning to do. Since going to full-time ministry, time is extremely valuable. Would love to go to Catalyst and learn.
“Being present” means you’re not just awake: you’re truly alive!
kerry, congrats! putting your name on the list.
In a world saturated with distractions, it is a challenge to be present–to reign in my attention and pin it to NOW. I need to grow in this area and would love to attend Catalyst. I’ll be tweeting and facebooking about this, though the odds of me winning are better if I don’t invite all my friends to enter : )
congrats elizabeth!
You mean I won?! That’s fantastic. How do I claim my prize?
If you end up with one extra ticket, I’d love to experience Catalyst with my husband.
your name is at will call. what is your husband’s name?
Thanks so much for picking me! I’m thrilled. My husband’s name is Mike Thompson.
i’ve asked them to put it at will call. i’ll let you know if it’s a success!
Thanks, John! So, are you going to Catalyst? I can’t wait : )
not this year.
I am presently wanting to go to Catalyst Dallas. “Being Present” to me speaks to the fact that I am usually not…that is I am putting my attentions elsewhere and need to focus on the now and build those relationships.
I have heard so many great things about Catalyst over the years and never been able to make it.
I often feel like being present is something I need to work on. I always have so many different things going on even if they are little that I let myself be pulled in several different directions rather than being fully present on one thing at a time.
Sometimes we have to remove technology in order to be present.
To ‘be present’ is to be attentive and aware of your situation and surroundings. Is is to be a listener and to have empathy if need be.
Being present is making sure not to focus too much on the future that you forget to lead today.
Being present is being pre-sent.
Therefore, since you thought about sending me before you made this post, I am
Pre-sent!
Thanks, John!
I would LOVE to be present at Catalyst!
beth,
congrats!
By the way … I tweeted and FB liked too.
Actually … don’t pick me. I would LOVE to go but I couldn’t afford the travel expenses right now.
Being present doesn’t mean cutting out all the things that distract. Rather, it means managing and prioritizing those “distractions” so that you are fully engadget in the right things at the right time.
“Being present” is something that few people have truly mastered, especially in today’s busy and fast-paced culture. We value time and getting things done so we try to multitask, dividing our attention and applying it towards whatever needs to get done. Some things get pushed aside as a result. Being present is focusing only on that which is in front of, giving the task, person, job, etc your undivided attention. So you’re not daydreaming about the day, what happened earlier, or anything, you’re fully engaged with the person or task at hand.
Living in the moment and speaking the truth.
Being “Present” is to be in-the-moment.
You cannot revisit your past, nor can you jump-to-future.
You have the present. The now.
To be present is to LIVE now! To be aware of what is being said and done around you.
To be “Present” is to be truly conscious, NOW, of those around you.
Love. Listen. Serve.
Be Present.
Your past does not define your future.
It may have defined your present;
but your Present defines your Future.
congrats jonathan!
Thanks for this opportunity, John!
I’m stoked and can’t wait to be there!
I don’t need a free ticket, as I’ll be there! Looking forward to seeing you five peeps there.
In a world that is “never present” I’m trying to learn how to be present in my family and ministry. This is a vital topic for right now. Even other ministers I’ve met with, I never felt like they were with me because they were constantly answering calls, texting, etc. Though not perfect, I want to be different. Catalyst is helping us be different by focusing 10′s of 1000′s on this subject! Thanks for this opportunity!
congrats shane!
Thanks so much John!
I would love to receive tickets to Catalyst as a present, so I could be present and present the info I gain to our church leadership.
centered. focused. aware. grounded.
(and i really think that you need to choose jonathan foster as a winner, not me! i hope you have a ticket for him…)
Being present is being focused on where you are, what you are doing (to quote Yoda), but it goes beyond that. It is sharing life with those in your life. It is honesty and genuine compassion for those around you. Being present is being willing to put those in your life in front of your own personal selfish desires.
