Archives For Community

Somewhat in the same vein as the previous post about getting fired it occurred to me after reading many of the comments that I’m actually quite interested in some of the future plans for many of our community members around these parts.

What are some of the things on your personal roadmap for 2012 (as far as you can tell)? What have you got planned? What are some of the crazy-awesome projects that you’re planning on starting, building, and launching? What are some of the new businesses that you’re going to begin? What things will you stop doing this coming year that you’ve done every single year so far?

One of the most powerful things that I’ve learned about sharing my goals is that I typically am more amped about completing them after I share them. I know that many people suggest that sharing ideas actually stops your progress but I haven’t found that to be true. Obviously I’ve found it to be just the opposite.

Sharing one of your projects or business ideas in a comment is relatively harmless anyways, right? Or is it…

Love to hear what you’ve got planned. Inspire me folks!

Nice... but a little sterile.

I have yet to install any music “solution” in my blogger’s home office as it’s still being worked on but I know that many of you can’t work without music in the background (like me).

For me it almost doesn’t matter what the song is – and I put it on repeat until I decide to change it. I’m a pop music !@#$@ (bad word there, but you get the picture) and anything in the Top 40 is probably in my playlist. I’ll admit it; I like that stuff.

But it’s not the content necessarily but the emotive qualities and repetition that keeps me productive. If I spend any more time trying to explain this personal phenomenon it’ll just sound weird so I’ll stop now.

In any case, I’m curious if anyone has any good suggestions on a home music setup that works really well? I moved into a new home earlier this year and haven’t done any dramatic changes to my office space (yet). Still planning and organizing but music is on top of the list.

I’d welcome any and all suggestions. Pictures would be sweet!

I just received a Chemex Coffeemaker and I couldn’t be more excited! I’ve been told about the legendary experience from more than a few people and I decided that I had to try it for myself. I am somewhat surprised that no one mentioned it here as an option in a previous post about Coffee Machines.

Perhaps they didn’t comment on the post…

It’s worth noting that for Cyber Monday 8BIT WordPress Themes are 30% off, including the awesome Standard Theme (which I use here on this blog!). Just use the code BLACK2011 at checkout!

If there was any good time to get the full run of WordPress Themes that I completely trust to do the job as a professional blogger then it would be now. Seriously, get the WordPress Theme that has helped me become a pro.

As I continually walk through the creation of my home office for blogging I realized that the walls are pretty darn bare – in fact, there’s nothing on them at all.

I was wondering if the community here had any suggestions as to what I should hang (if anything) on my walls? Local artists? Famous pieces of work? My own children’s genius masterpieces?

Love to know your thoughts!

Yum.

As I continue to map out the perfect home office for a professional blogger I knew that it would only be a matter of time until I made a decision about caffeinated beverages.

You see, at this point I’m quite addicted and in love with coffee. Although I’m trying to reduce my intake by a bit I’m not sure that I’ll ever give it up; it provides a lot of personal pleasure and motivates me to write and engage in my work with interest and intensity.

You perhaps have some of the same feelings and sentiments? I hope more than a few of you say “Yes!” to that!

So, here’s the deal – I have two questions for you, the second question having value if you say “Yes” to the first:

I’ve decided to move my “office” into my kitchen this Thanksgiving week so as to be closer to the source of yummies all week long.

Seriously, my wife has been killing it in the kitchen and the leftovers from an early holiday party on Monday are still providing the goodness days later as we wait for… well, today!

I also get to stare at my youngest daughter as she nibbles on food and snacks. If you’re wondering what that neat contraption is on the opposite side of where I’m sitting it’s called “The Lobster” and is one of the best inventions for children of all time! We carry that thing with us wherever we go – it’s well worth the somewhat hefty price tag!

I’m now looking for a super-comfy sofa for my home office. I think this will provide a much-needed break for my legs as I spend most of it standing up for my current standing desk setup.

I want something that can double as a spot where I can create amazing content with my Macbook Air on my lap while at the same time being a really nice spot to have a nap when I want to. I want something “oldish” and “vintagy” (is that a word) from a stylistic perspective.

If you’ve got any suggestions or examples or links – I’ll take ‘em! I think my office will be generally recreated into a super-lounge-like area (or something like that).

Well, actually, I’m not completely sold on that yet but it’s probably going to head in that direction I believe. Shoot me your links, examples, images, etc!

Reading: Steve Jobs

October 29, 2011 — 38 Comments

I’m really doing only one thing this weekend (besides hanging out with my beautiful family): Reading Steve Jobs.

I hope you’re having a wonderful weekend that’s full of fun, family, friends, and good reads! Of course, I’ll most likely share a few thoughts after I finish the gargantuan book – I’ve already learned a few incredible things about him as well as learned a few things about myself. I’ve previously shared a few things about blogging like Steve Jobs too.

Good books do that you know.

What are you reading these days?

My 9-month old daughter (and I) decided that the old Dell XPS wasn’t pulling its weight when it came to blogging so we decided to show it who’s boss (or she did).

In her own little way she slowly, but surely, managed to take off all of the keys. Ah, what a great break from the mundane!

I have a few videos after the jump as well. Enjoy!
