What is Your Dance?

We've all got it in us... somewhere.

Sometimes you just need to loosen up a bit – shake off the dust of trying to be someone you’re not or give yourself the freedom to just go nuts in your own skin.

I wish we were all a bit more confident and secure about ourselves and our identity, both in real life and online, to just be who we are without the constraints of societal pressure and peer-expectations!

Sometimes we just need to dance! Right where we are in our own little way.

I felt this way today as I spent a little more time than I had wanted doing work on a weekend. I ended up just wanting to dance and free my mind, my heart, and my aching hands (too much typing!) a bit.

When was the last time you just “danced?” It might not be a physical dance (although that’s sweet!) but just some form of freeing expression that was without any constraints; boundary-less?

For kicks – and a laugh – here’s a personal example.

  1. My “dance” lately has been tapping out comedic essays/rants about the trials and absurdities of being a single Christian woman. Unlikely I will ever get it to sharable/publishable standard but it has been fun to work on. At the moment I have chapter titles like “All my friends are getting married- facebook told me so” and “Contentment and other stupid advice about finding a man” :p

  2. My dance is pet related. It seems, ok no it doesn’t seem…I HAVE completely spoiled my kittens to my attention since I brought them home as just weaned wee beasties. So my dance before I get to type is trying to make them understand that the coffee is all mine, the keyboard is NOT a napping place and my legs are NOT scratching posts :) Little Buddha (you can see photos at my site) is the most stubborn. He was the runt of the litter and is very demanding of my attention :) In fact as I’m typing this he is trying to find a place to lay down on my lap….

  3. I think I get my car dance on more often than regular dance. It’s where I crank some George Acosta, perhaps some V is for VooDoo by Prodigy. How can you not get your dance on sometimes? :)

  4. I SO needed this, today, John, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Jer 31:4. Blessings to you and yours.

The classic two-step is always a win -lol!

  6. My dance is on my walk home from work. The bus drops me off at the Santa Monica Pier and I stroll home along the beach. If you’re going to move to CA after growing up in Kansas you better do it right. Good Days.

  7. I pick up my ukulele and have a good old strum!
