Dreamhost: Free Extra Domain Name for Life!

October 29, 2010 — 45 Comments

Dreamhost is one of the many web hosts that I have recommended that you check out when considering a hosting provider for your new blog.

They are simple to use and every single client that I’ve helped move to this system has liked it so far. And I use it as well for a few of my sites and blogs!

One of the nice things too is that it’s very simple to setup a new WordPress-powered blog as well, either via a 1-click installation process or even manually. In fact, everything that they’ve done with the back-admin is pretty slick and easy to use.

Can’t go wrong with that!

An Extra Domain Name for Life!

Dreamhost gives each new user one domain name for life, which is a pretty sweet deal, but now I’m pleased to announce that if you use “TentBlogger” as a promo key you’ll get an additional domain for life as well!

That’s 2 free domains for life that you can use to diversify your blogging efforts or even launch some strategic landing pages/sites for personal branding, marketing, or what not.

I hope you take advantage of this neat offer and that you’re wildly successful with it!

Enjoy!

John

  1. Does this mean that you and Dreamhost are friends again?

  2. Sweet deal. How long does the promo code last?

  3. this might be a dumb question:

I bought my domain with domainsatcost.ca …is it worth “porting” over to dreamhost or keeping it separate (in case one day i don’t renew with dreamhost)?

  4. Question: If one already has a DreamHost account, can one still use the promo code?

  5. Using this code John, can you still pay for 1, 2 years upfront, or do you have to pay for a longer period upfront?

    Thanks!

  6. If you use this code, do you have to buy multiple years worth of hosting, or can you still buy just one or two years upfront?

  7. John, you must be the most controversial blogger on the blogsphere…

I thought you said “Good bye Dreamhost” :)

i did. and i meant it for a few domains. a few client domains are still sitting there and it is too much work and effort to move them, and they are happy clients!

as for me, i use mediatemple for this blog and the big ones. in fact, i have accounts with many different hosting providers.

      it is what it is.

      • True… I want to move my blog to another host but I am still waiting because it involves really too much of work… It could be technically risky too… I see, moving several blogs isn’t easy.

Besides your clients wont be happy if you decide to move their blogs, because of an issue you had with Dreamhost right?

  8. This was just the blog I needed to read today as I am in the market for a host and two domain names. Thanks so much. Its great that the promo code is good for life too>

  9. Sorry for the multiple comments! I was trying to comment at work and it looked like it wasn’t posting. Thanks for all the continued advice!

  10. I just registered with DreamHost and entered in the promo code, but I didn’t see anywhere where I was able to enter in my second free domain name. Any ideas?

  11. John, Think I already know the answer but want to make sure. I bought Standard Theme last night before realizing it’s not compatible with WordPress.com (totally my fault). Do I have to know CSS and build a blog at WordPress.org before being able to use Standard?

You mention above regarding Dreamhost “One of the nice things too is that it’s very simple to setup a new WordPress-powered blog as well, either via a 1-click installation process or even manually. In fact, everything that they’ve done with the back-admin is pretty slick and easy to use.”

Does that mean it’s possible to set up a Standard Theme friendly blog with 1-click installation (not having to know CSS)?

    Thanks for your help,
    jason

      jason,

you can setup the blog easily with dreamhost. then, purchase a copy of standard (support license is best to get dedicated support) and yes, uploading it to the theme folder is easy as well.

you don’t need css understanding to use the theme!

      • John, One more question. I read where it is against ICANN regulation to transfer a new domain. I just created one on WordPress.com. Is that statement legitimate? Does that mean I need to wait 90 before setting up that domain with Dreamhost?

Thanks so much for your time,
        jason

  12. Is it possible to, say, make a domain name you’ve already registered a domain name for life? I registered a domain name a while ago that I intended to use for my main blog one day, but it’s at GoDaddy so it costs money. I never knew this deal existed, and now I regret ever taking that domain name at GoDaddy :(

    Any way to fix this?

    Thank you!

I just signed up with DreamHost this week! Bummer, I’m so sorry I missed this.

They already provide free domain hosting for the duration of one’s service, and I don’t know if I would ever use a second domain, but still…
