It’s worth noting that the following video embedded below has some harsh language – it’s best skipped if your sensibilities will be challenged!
But heck, I really enjoyed watching this and seeing how Eric Kelly, a trainer and staff member at Church Street Boxing Gym, loves what he does and literally doesn’t pull any punches with the clients and customers that he coaches.
Eric Kelly who? Here’s his dossier in a nutshell:
- 104 wins, 14 losses
- 2 time New York Golden Gloves Champion
- 4 time National Champion
- 2000 Olympic alternate
- 3 time Milwaukee Golden Glove
- Ranked #1 in the country for USA Boxing
- Ranked #4 in the World
The kid had serious talent during the height of his career! He probably would have continued on if not for his “street altercation” that stopped his career trajectory. Too bad – it would have been neat to see this guy dance.

What I love the most is how obvious it is that he loves what he does, who he works with, and (maybe) even the people he trains. He has a passion and heart for it and it shows.
Sure, he brings a different “flavor” to his style of coaching but it doesn’t seem be stopping the continued growth of his client list. To be honest, some people desperately need his style of approach – some people need it straight up and in your face.
I can never do what Eric Kelly does (and I’m not interested) but I like his perspective and his attitude. The language is “meh” but that wouldn’t stop me from hanging out with the guy.
Heck, I wouldn’t mind him training my small asian frame as I would love to learn to throw a decent punch. Maybe I’ll ask him – I just have to get over the idea of being called a “stupid motherf*cker” in my face first…
Hmm.
Love what you do folks, love what you do.

Absolutely fantastic…let’s take a field trip and go train with him…

“[Everybody's] cut from different cloths”…so true. Love that.
Not only will you learn how to punch, but you’ll also develop a thicker skin able to withstand a variety of insults.
That totally cracked me up!
