*Apologize for my lack of enthusiasm and apparent energy – It was late.*
Nothing exceptionally glamorous, trust me. But, day #1 as a full time blogger is now complete.
Ah.
My day looked like this:
- Woke up.
- Coffee. Lots of it.
- Woke up my daughter, packed lunch, drop off at pre-school.
- Met a friend briefly, a few business items discussed.
- Post office.
- Home.
- Drafted and/or published 10 posts.
- Lunch with my wife, shopped for some shoes.
- Nap.
- Pick up daughter. Snacks, then put her down for a nap.
- Email, business, business, business, email, email, meeting, meeting, conference call.
- Wireframe, Code, Mockup, Design.
- Daughter wakes up, play with her (bike riding, soccer, random silliness).
- Dinner. Yum.
- Research, organize, draft.
- Shower
- Install WordPress on TentBlogger.com, upload StandardTheme, quickly customized base theme with some relevant information.
- Updated the “About” page.
- Record this video post and then publish.
As I mentioned in the video, I’m excited about this next stage and season in my life and I hope you can join me!
Feel free to subscribe to the RSS Feed and follow me on Twitter ( @TentBlogger )!
And, of course, to lift the mood a bit, here’s a cartoon:

LOL!
Can’t wait to get to Day #2!

Hey John,
Good luck with the full time blogger gig. I’m not really sure that I could do what you are doing, and I wish you all the best.
Andrew
well, that’s the thing andrew… tentblogging is not about making a full time income or salary but rather a few extra bucks here and there.
i always wanted to just have a little more money for diapers…!
I totally understand, I just don’t think I could be one to give up going to work for someone other than myself, even if it is only for a few extra bucks.
at least not yet, right? i never planned for this to happen. who knows. maybe you’ll learn a thing or two here.
regardless, thanks for the support!
Diaper money, ha! So true, so true. I started blogging in 2008 to earn some extra “diaper money” too!
I look forward to learning more about the craft from you. Wish you all the best in this new venture!
thanks tom! you are truly a tentblogger!
Heh, I “heard” someone on Twitter say that by the time you’ve paid for diapers for two kids you might as well have bought a Lamborghini. So true.
i’d like a ferarri first.
Congrats John on your new journey!
thanks dewitt! it’s just started!
Congrats! Wish you the best!
thanks wisdom!
Wow – do I REALLY get to be the first one to ever leave a comment on TentBlogger?
Nice. Well congrats! I hope this full-time blogger deal works out for you. And I hope you’ll share some of your thoughts and findings along the way. Best of luck to you!
Um. Okay. Guess I should have refreshed….doh!
i’m still playing around with some cacheing. might be it too.
i’m in my “sweet spot”.
Exciting! I could handle doing the band thing and blogging for a living. But, I will go install a couple doors in the morning before setting up for tomorrow nights show. Not there yet.
I was meaning to say this on your NP farewell post. You along with 8bit and the NP staff have had a major influence on how we go about doing what we do. Thank you for the tools that you have placed in our hands. I will be around to cheer you on for the next stage of your life and I am excited about what I will learn next. Thank you!
thanks trevor! your support means a lot to me. God’s been so good, hasn’t he?
Hey John.
I just want to say that your last few posts have really tipped me over the edge in terms of what I feel that the Lord is directing me to do, so thank you so much for speaking into my life!
You have always been a huge inspiration, and I thank you for your bits of help and advice when you have been able to take a few minutes out to chat along the way.
I would love to chat to you for a couple of minutes about the vision I have at the moment if you get an opportunity to hop on skype, or maybe we could just shoot a couple of emails round.
Bless you!
thanks james! i remember our first convo years ago… it’s been an interesting road since then, hasn’t it?
Nice! Look forward to it, and Standard looks good in it’s more basic form.
just starting out. nothing fancy nothing over the top.
john – love the work you do.
keep rockstar blogging!
thanks dave!
Congrats John,
Best wishes. What properties are you writing for?
Bob
Bob,
I’ll write a post in a bit about how I’m earning an income. stay tuned!
I have to say, the idea of TentBlogging is pretty attractive. I love writing/interacting on blogs. I’m interested to see what the business side of your TentBlogging looks like (if you’re willing to share). I think a lot of people are skeptical of blogging as a lucrative business.
So there you go. I will follow this blog so much it will be borderline-creepy.
i’m going to lay it all out, share my stats, how I make a living, and all of that. i think it’ll help for people to see what it takes. i hope to provide a much more realistic depiction of full time blogging than a few others out there.
it’s hard work… and takes a long time. takes faith too!
hey John,
congrats! a couple months ago i made a similar move. hope this works out well for you.
Gary
awesome! what blog(s)? love to see!
Love the name. Love the topic. Seems quite fascinating. I’ll be very interested in keeping up with this!
thanks!
By the way, have you thought about adding a subscribe via email link? I don’t really do the rss.
i’ll add that in a sec! just for you!
hahahah, thanks John!
done! check out the top. refresh page if necessary.
I wish you well in your new endeavor, and pray that God blesses your work. Back at the end of January, I made a similar move. While most of what I have been doing has been online (via the name Tentmakers By Trade), you’ve inspired me with the term “Digital Tentmaking”.
I look forward to seeing where this journey takes you.
i saw that. very neat.
Your big time now, or is it the other way around?
Starting a new adventure, its what you do
and you as well, right?
nice.

lame..
Congrats bro! I’m looking forward to seeing what you have in store. Praying for you and the fam!
thanks jay!
Nice work for the first day of the new gig. Will be sure to subscribe after leaving this comment.
So totally awesome man. Congrats, looking forward to some righteous postings!
thanks chase!
Outstanding day 1, especially the nap and random silliness parts. What blew me away though was the “Drafted and/or published 10 posts”… before lunch? 10? Wha? I bow down. You need to change the name of this blog to SUPER Tent Blogger and put a little cape on your cartoon self.
Hey John,
Congrats on your new venture! We’ve added you to our blogroll at our new site, http://ResonateOrDie.com, which is launching soon.
Keep up the great work!
Kerry
thanks kerry! hope things are well with your blog!
Congrats! All the best for blogging in the future. =]
how are things phil?
I have really appreciated your tips on how to blog…especially the dumbing down of the terms! lol I have some questions that might seem really ridiculous, but to me they are important. I was recently granted disability at a very young age. I am going crazy trying to find something to do with my time, and your articles caught my eye because this is exactly what I love to do! As a blogger, do you actually earn MONEY from the sponsors, or is it giftcards, rewards, etc. Does a blogger file taxes from this income? I’m sorry if this seems ignorant…I guess I am. I actually hope you can answer some of this via my email….its a little embarrassing to ask all this. :/ Thanks for all you do!
lisa,
i’m going to talk about a lot of this… but yes, i earn money from sponsors and direct advertising. the series on making money blogging shares a lot of this:
http://tentblogger.com/how-professional-bloggers-make-money-how-to-make-money-blogging/
yes, and i definitely file taxes!
Thanks for the info John; much appreciated! See you on Twitter! (I’m actually Melodee054 on there!
sweet! thanks!
LOVE this post! Just came across your page today! This looks very much like my first day as a full-time/professional musician. Now 2 1/2 years late its going pretty well and I have a music marketing blog called Grassrootsy that I’m finally starting to generate income from. Is this not CRAZY!

Hey John,
The video disappeared. I wanted to rewatch it again. Can you embed it back into the post please?
