Doh! I didn't know...!
***UPDATE – Looks like Google has eliminated this feature. Nice! One less thing to do, right?**
It never fails to surprise me how some of the most basic strategies to increase one’s blog presence and traffic on the web are never actually employed!
I’ve done a poll in a live audience before and have asked them this question:
How many of you have submitted your blogs to Google directly?
Crazy how perhaps 1 out of 10 actually raised their hand! Of course, the moment I asked that question I saw some anxious faces who desperately felt like they were missing out and who desperately wanted to know how to do it.
“Easy!” I said. All you have to do is go here:

Head over to Google’s URL Site and just put in your information. Don’t forget the “http://”!
That’s it! Easy, right? I’ve seen some sites who have struggled to get indexed find this as a great starter place and seen some results. Other sites may not be impacted at all, but it’s worth doing anyway.
Do it for your blog(s) and then tell someone else!
Ok, ‘fess up: How many of you haven’t done this yet?
Don’t Forget Yahoo! and Bing!
Of course you’ll want to do the same thing for Yahoo! and Bing.

Umm…it’s done now.
you’re amazing.
This never even crossed my mind. Until 45 seconds ago.
haha.
URL added.
The Transformer said it all in the caption. Totally didn’t know about this. Thank you!
sure thing!
I hadn’t done this. I didn’t know you could, just thought Google was on the ball like that… apparently I underestimated my own responsibilities as a blogger <.<
ooops!
done now!
I finally did last week, ( bashfull grin )
you’re awesome.!
Thanks for the info.
sure thing kyle?
Psht, I had this done like 2-3 minutes ago.
puaha!
I use the Google submit tool whenever I create a new blog
hawt!
Now I’m part of the cool crowd.
sweet! you’re in!
*hangs head in shame* I’ll be right back. I need to go…go check something that doesn’t have anything to do with adding my blog to Google.
all good!
where would we be without you, tentblogger?!
somewhere else… on the internet…
Thanks. I am so new to all of this. I had no idea that this was possible.
sure thing scott!
Um, yeah…. now I am in the game.
you are there!
So simple, yet I never thought of it. Great tip!
not a problem rachel!
Is it necessary to do this if you’ve already gone through all the google webmaster tools?
I did just in case, but it seems a bit redundant to me.
tony,
i still do it despite the fact that my blogs get indexed. Never hurts and takes 5 seconds!
Guilty! But it’s only been 4 years, right?
Thanks…..again!
haha! you’re not alone!
Nope…I hadn’t done it. I’ve had my website for 12-13 years so it never crossed my mind.
Thanks -
Perfect timing! I just got my blog live on Sunday and was just yesterday wondering what to do about this. I just registered mine.
great stuff melissa!
Didn’t know. Thank you.
(I echo Jon Manna – “where would we be without you, tentblogger?!”)
Another thing I did not know… Thanks John!
sure thing steven!
I honestly can’t remember…
I usually do it for all my sites and all my clients, but I don’t know if I did it for my current blog!
I’m in the index anyway so I guess it doesn’t matter now…
Question: If you’re using Google webmaster tools, does that negate any need for doing this?
i still do it despite the fact that my blogs get indexed. Never hurts and takes 5 seconds!
Done. Thanks! And this is why I read your blog.
ah, thanks!
Hadn’t done it, either. Thanks for the tip.
sure thing jeff!
You’re like the Yoda of blogging.
eh. i’ve been around for a bit. that’s all!
Do Bing or Yahoo have anything like this?
Totally didn’t know about this. Thank you!
yup. same. check 2 new posts.
Yeah, I hadn’t done that either. Thank you for letting me know. So helpful!
sure thing josh!
I’ve added mine.
sweet! well done.
Thanks for sharing how to add our site to google.
not a prob becky. that’s what i do!
John, I added my site to Google not long ago, but it never occurred to me to do the same on Bing and Yahoo!
I’ve just seen your posts about that, and I’ve just did it.
Thanks for making my life easier again!
sure thing cris!
As I understand it, though, if Google is already indexing your blog, this is completely unnecessary, correct?
yes. it is safe to say that, but even though they may be indexed i always do it anyways. it takes 5 seconds and you don’t lose anything.
i try to stay overly-cautious of these search engines!
I have not done this before. Seems so simple! I own http://grahambrenna.com and http://gbrenna.com and they both have come up in a Google search before I did this. So I’m guessing I’ve already been added to Google but it never hurts to be sure.
Thank you so much for your posts. They have been so helpful. I noticed that Yahoo offers the option of adding your site feed as well. I use Feedburner is the site feed the “original feed” address or the “feed address” listed? Thanks again, Jo Rae
original feed i believe is what they accept.
I just added my URL.
great!
Done deal, Lucille. Thanks for the advice! (I’m learning a lot from you)
LY
great! glad i can help!
Done! John thanks for all your help man!
sure thing rob!
Thanks for this advice! I did this today.
sweet! pretty simple, right?
so…um…yeah…
thanks dude
Just tried this by clicking on the link and by manually typing the URL shown in the screenshot. I keep getting an error message “The page you are trying to reach does not exist (404).” Any ideas? Thanks.
looks like they’ve killed this feature.
That is mind boggling that they killed the feature. Why do you think they did that?
Do you have any suggestions for alternate ways to do this?
eh, it was probably good… i think organic recognition is good. not sure there’s any way around this besides using the property.
thanxxxxx ……….
