I seriously love what I do!
There are a lot of very important elements that have made a number of bloggers (and their blogs) successful. They would (and have) shared with their audiences great tips and tricks of what has helped them succeed and possibly “rules” to follow to emulate their success.
I would most likely agree with all of them, but here’s one of my top “rules” that I keep without question…
If you’re not having FUN then take a break or stop!
I have gone further, faster, because I like what I do and have a blast doing it. The “fun” meter helps me tell if I’m in the right place and helps me be as productive as I am.
And when I’m not I simply take a break, and wait. Perhaps for a brief moment or a long time.
I also think that this translates implicitly and explicitly to your readers as well! Your readers aren’t stupid and they can most likely tell when something is “forced.”
I’m having fun – a lot of it – and when it’s done it’s done!

Love the Iron Man thing on your Mac!
i want to replace it with war machine next……

It is cool. I keep searching for some kind of Hebrew lettering thing to put on mine but I haven’t been able to find anything
Giving is fun (to me). I enjoy seeing GOOD done in the earth. I know this may seem off the familiar path, but I enjoy it. It’s what I did (giving) as a teacher and youth pastor. That’s why for the remainder of 2010 I’m giving $1 each day to an individual or organization making a significant difference in the earth. I’m keeping the receipts as props and proof for upcoming posts about where I gave.
Do you have an unsung organization to recommend that I can help continue to do GOOD? Areas of focus are education, poverty, and the environment.
wow. this is so awesome. i had no idea. love to see that series of posts!
I guess there is a tension to manage between producing content at a rate that keeps up interest and producing content that you are fantastically excited about.
Ideally one would only produce content for the latter reason, right?
Additionally, a coworker of mine who shall remain nameless glanced over my shoulder at this post and asked if that was John’s wife….
Take that how you will…
OUCH!!!!!!!!!!!
In his DREAMS.

yes. sometimes you might not feel like it… there’s a slight difference between passion and fun and pleasure and satisfaction.
Ain’t that the truth! A bored blogger is a boring blogger.
ah. i like that.
The BLOG TITLE for that day’s entry has to grab my attention. That’s what makes me stop skimming and start reading. The title has to contain a direct link to the content, just like an email would, and draw in the reader in clear, creative language. ‘Nuff said.
@Brian – your friend need glasses?
Yes, he probably does need glasses.
Agreed. A catchy title will definitely entice me to read a post if it is not a blog I regularly follow. I try to be creative, but sometimes come up short.
John, great point. Right now I’m having fun, but it only leads me to average about two posts per week. I hope to increase that, but not at the expense of the joy it gives. Thanks for reinforcing the point.
2 posts a week is fine! don’t feel the pressure… because there is none!
a good blog title is key!
Just smile and wave, smile and wave
that’s very asian.
not sure if i want to explain that…..
The more I go in this blogging world I feel like the more I enjoy it. That’s part of the reason that I’ve started to post (almost) every day. I’ve gotten a bit of pushback from some of the readers feeling like it’s too much info coming at them, but at the end of the day, it actually relaxes me and I enjoy it. I feel like if I’ve put out a decent post, at least I can point to something concrete and say “today I’ve accomplished something”
sure sure. gotta manage that tension!
I feel like Andy Stanley should get a dollar every time I (or someone else) says “manage tension”.
about to do it again……. post coming in 30 seconds!!!!! that’s so funny………….
