As I continually walk through the creation of my home office for blogging I realized that the walls are pretty darn bare – in fact, there’s nothing on them at all.
I was wondering if the community here had any suggestions as to what I should hang (if anything) on my walls? Local artists? Famous pieces of work? My own children’s genius masterpieces?
Love to know your thoughts!

Art is a must, for me at least. I have a framed print of Edward Hopper’s “Nighthawks” on one way, a black and white canvas print of the Brooklyn Bridge/NYC skyline at night. I also have a few segments of art we used for Sunday services as well as my guitars hanging on the back wall by my desk. My son is only 3, so once he can so much as draw a line on paper by himself, I’m sure my walls will be adorned with his work, ha-ha!

Personally I think a person’s work space should be pleasing to the eye of the one doing all the work in it! So whether it’s art or just walls painted in different colors than the rest of the house makes no difference as long as it is personally pleasing. My work space is not separate or walled off in any way from the rest of the house, of course I live alone so it makes little difference
ah. that’s a good point. i wonder if it’ll be a distraction … or just a “waste”. not that art is a waste but that it won’t add to anything that i’m doing.
I am putting up whatever I like to look at. We moved 2 months ago and I finally had time last week to unpack/organize/put together my creative space. I have lots of family pictures, I have a few of my kids’ artwork up and I have a couple of unfamous paintings that I really enjoy that will be going up soon. Also, I have my baby blanket displayed, for a couple of reasons: my mom made it for me, and its brightly colored & fun.
I think its important, too, where you place things. For example, my creative space is mine and not my kids’ or my husband’s. So, while I have family pictures in my space, they’re not immediately in front of me while I’m working. So then my kids aren’t staring me in the face during a project where I need to focus.
I guess I’d say, put up what YOU like, but pay attention to where you put things and what you’ll see for hours at a time.

My office is a corner of my living room. So nothing. I have planned for a while to put a photo print up that I bought two years ago. It is still in the roll and I haven’t had it framed yet. But that is still my plan. I will probably do it for myself for Christmas.

For my home office, I have made my own wall decor that inspires me. I have printed several quotes and inspirational phrases that I have framed in picture frames from the dollar store. I also have printed copies from covers of books that have inspired me framed in picture frames.

I have a bit of everything as my home office (which I use for my personal stuff – blogs – and my full time job with Verizon) is also our library.
I have a large framed picture of Samson from an antique bible.
I have a framed stamp collection from my grandfather.
I have a cork board which rotates artwork and writings (poetry and prose) from my kids.
I have a painting I painted years ago.
I have my guitars hanging.
And I have a few shelves that I use to display other personal items (from travel, events, etc.).
Very personal.

In my little corner of room, I don’t have any artwork; however, on my desktop screen I have a pic I shot while in Prague & that helps remember and keeps me dreaming.
I would encourage you to put up things that will inspire your creativity. If it’s a whiteboard so you can sketch out that next great product. Do it! Maybe its painting one wall with IdeaPaint or a Chalkboard paint and it simply becomes your Inspiration wall for new ideas. Whatever it is, I think it should contribute to what makes you do your best work.
In my cubicle at work, I have pics of people I pray for, an ornament my parents gave me a few years back, my sister family in Russia, people I work with, other adventures I have been a part of and a calendar that helps me relate to the great outdoors for the moments when I wish I was somewhere else and…my little Macbook Air that really helps me be creative when my PC won’t do the trick.
