We’ve come so far, haven’t we?

I had a moment of reflection this morning as I sat down to began to tackle the mountain of work that needs to be done. I realized how much is before me but more importantly, at least for this moment, how much is behind me.

Take 5 minutes, right now, to consider all that has happened in the first 3 quarters of 2012. Consider all that you have done and accomplished, all the projects you completed, all the new relationships you formed, all the opportunities you considered, all the things you said ‘Yes’ to and all the things that you had to say ‘No’ to as well.

Consider how you’ve thrived, grown, and been challenged. Consider also, if you like, the heartbreak and disappointment that you survived (and perhaps still surviving) up until this point.

How incredible is that? Look at how far we’ve come.

In the moments of doubt and anxiety and fear I need to simply look behind me, even if it is a pile of failure and disappointment, and appreciate all the things that I have to look forward to.

This moment is as good as any other time to see things fresh and anew. We still have one more quarter of the calendar year of 2012 – make it count.

  1. Thank you for the encouragement, John.
It’s easy to lose sight of the journey up to this point while still looking up the mountain. It’s important to look back and wonder at the climb thus far.

  2. I see no failure. I just lick my wounds and keep moving forward.

    Hmmm…

That whole licking my wounds thing is supposed to represent being persistent and the wounds and scars are there to be a reminder or lesson learned from the past…

It is still a bit of a grotesque and visceral way to say something.

How about this quote some of you may have heard.

“…Stay hungry, stay foolish.” – Steve Jobs

  3. Great pst, John. Thanks.
