I am P90x

April 23, 2011 — 26 Comments

I’m going to attempt to do the P90x system for the next 90 days.

I have the DVDs, I’ve got my pull-up bar, my resistance bands, and even a black mat. Spent about $80 today at Walmart.

I have never tried an “at home” fitness system and to be honest I’m feeling rather goofy. But, I’m going to give it a fair shot (I hope). In fact, I’ve canceled my LA Fitness membership to provide even more motivation to do this.

Now all I have to do is start, which I’m finding out is the hardest part. But, the moment after I hit the “Publish” button I’m going to start on Day 1.

Here’s a look at the “Classic” schedule for the next 90 days with which I’m going to try to execute against:

  1. I’ve been thinking of starting the PX90 too. You should have issued a challenge to the Tentblogger community for us to do it together… maybe hold each other accountable… then it could be:

Blogging for Fun and Profit (and rock hard abs).
    :)

  2. I’ve read from real people amazing results! What about diet? Going to change that?

  3. I started P90X Monday so today was day 6 for me. If you can still reach above you head without pain, you may want to move anything you need, for next couple of days, from the upper shelves to a lower one. I could not wash my hair without the weird cringing look on my face from the pain, when I got my hands about eye level.

That being said I’m not as sore now so push on and enjoy.

  4. i’ve seen it work … we’ve done it and have really like it! Good luck!

  5. Congrats! As Tony says “keep pushing play.” My wife and I have done it together for 2.5 years. It is our time together and we enjoy the good workout. Have fun!

  6. John, rock it! It’s a great workout. But as a certified personal trainer I’m always concerned b/c it’s so much volume. It seems like the “muscle confusion” is really muscle overload. Overload is necessary for growth, but listen to your body. If you have questions, let me know.

It’s a great system and will work if stick with it.

My wife has been doing it for just over 2 months… I’ve randomly jumped in a couple times… It’s tough. I did Yoga X today for the first time… Have fun with that! Ha! I felt like all my days in the gum in high school went to waste.

    • nice! what’s stopping you from joining her completely?

i meant to say “GYM” in High School… anyways…

what’s stopping my now is my sleep schedule. When she and her friend started it, they were waking up at 5:45am to do it… at the time, I was usually up to 2am working, so that wasn’t working for me. Now that I have gotten to a regular sleep schedule (and work schedule) I have the time, but she’s already almost done. =/

so I am going to wait to do it after she’s done. then she can just start again with me.

  8. Congratulations, man!!! I’m on my 3rd round of p90x (I’m on p90x+ now) and it’s been a great journey!!! I’m 30 lbs. lighter and WAY stronger…dropped 2 pants sizes and actually have abs for the first time in my life!!!
Don’t give up man, Phase 3 you’ll be glad you didn’t!!!

I just created a 40-day spiritual challenge to all my readers – inspired by P90X… it’s called C40X! basically a 40-day plan to read through the new testament.

It should be a whole lot of awesome.

  10. Awesome John. I actually went through the process of getting fit a few years ago old skool…weight training and cardio training…lost 35 pounds and actually developed cut abs for the first time in my life. Unfortunately, after having shoulder surgery, I lost some of that, but I’m back in the gym for a while now and trying to get back to where I was. I’ve considered the P90X…maybe this will be the incentive to give it a try! Good luck, bro!

  11. John – congrats on P90X… I’ve started Insanity with a friend of mine and it’s an amazing workout… Like Tony says – the warm up have killed me already… Did 3 days in a row – had to stop Thursday and Friday and now will do tomorrow’s workout – as much as I can – even if it’s only the warm up and stretch…

Since I haven’t exercised in over 2 years, my body is completely out of any form/shape. But the best we can do is to stop when we need to and continue. Don’t HURT yourself… That’s my only advice. Pace yourself!

  12. John, great to see you’ve started P90X. I actually just started yesterday and I noticed this blog post today. I’ve got three other friends who have done it before (not a single one lives in my state) and they’ve been a huge encouragement to me to just do it. I hope you’re doing well with it. My big challenge is figuring out when to do it amongst family and commitments. I’m looking forward to seeing your progress. I’ll report back on mine too.

  13. If you’re doing the Classic P90X routine, here’s a link to a great Excel workbook that someone created with macros so you can track all your progress in it. It’s been really helpful to me. http://bit.ly/p90xExcel

  14. Three weeks in…how do you feel? This week you’re on your “less intense” week, right?

I did P12X about two or three times (only got a week and a half into it) but then restarted in April. But I was only done the day 1-3-5 workouts (strength) and going for runs the other days because I was training for a 10K. But after the 10K I hurt my back somehow and haven’t done much of anything for the past two weeks. Bummer. And I’m going to the beach this weekend and have eaten too much ICE CREAM to tell I’ve made any progress.
