Is Twitter Eternal?

As more and more and more people get their tweet on via Twitter, I have seriously begun to wonder if it’s going to last some of the typical business-burps that small startups experience.

Recently, they’ve hired a product strategist to help monetize the site. I hope it works, not just for their sake but for ours.

Have you thought about the impact that would be experienced if Twitter was suddenly shut down?

The simple fact is that many of us use it daily, if not hourly (and some every single minute of the day…). Would it be devastating to you?

If they can’t figure a way to get some money out of the beast then it’s going bye-bye. I think they could probably learn something from WordPress

What are your thoughts? Is Twitter eternal?

Read this article for more food for thought.

  1. It will be around for a long time… the revenue model for Twitter is just around the corner. Facebook offered a whopping $500 million and Twitter said no. With the large number of people joining daily and %75 of allTwitter users joining in '08… they are just getting started. Their bugs, problems and quirks are minor relative to the rate at which they have grown.

Personally my wife would probably appreciate if Twitter went Bye-Bye! :-)

  2. As a created being not around since before the beginning of time, perhaps the more appropriate question:

    Is Twitter immortal?

  3. I'd like to think that the concept itself is eternal. I somehow doubt that Twitter itself will be 'eternal', but if it goes it will only because something similar (but better) has come along. When I say better, I mean: status updates streamed directly to the brain with the ability to post @replies and dm's via thought patterns. :-)

  4. Maybe a few posts shared on Twitter will have eternal impact, but eternal itself…….NAH! Alright, I know what ya mean, lol. I do think it will last. I remember when everyone was really curious about Facebook. It's still around. Sure, it might have ads (many I can't stand), which might be an interesting next move for Twitter. It is free, and free doesn't last for long. Hear anything about ads coming to Twitter?
