My buddy Jeff Goins has released a new eBook titled You Are a Writer: So Start Acting Like One and let me take a sneak peek at the inside to review.
Wow, just the introduction by Sarah Mae was enough to catch hold of me! You’ve probably have heard very similar things as Sarah has experienced, where you’ve been writing because you like (no, love) to write but no one has really ever tapped you on the shoulder and said:
Hey, you’re a good writer… you should do that professionally!
I know this from experience because here’s the simple fact: I’ve never heard those words either. At one point I wanted so desperately to hear those words from really anyone but I quickly realized that no one really saw me that way, even if I had been writing for years!
I was branded as a “developer,” a “coder,” a “web guy” or whatnot – not really a “writer.”
I’ve learned to live with this and it doesn’t bother me at all at this point because I write every single day for myself and the community that I serve – I don’t need outside help or external forces of motivation to keep me going.
But here’s where you and I may differ dramatically: You were born to be a writer. Really.
Although my dreams stop just short of being a writer (professionally) you might have those dreams and I love that! You’re on a journey, just like Jeff is – and although Jeff might be a few steps ahead you have everything you need. Here’s an opportunity to learn a few very practical things from Jeff – anything from branding, online management, getting started on building a platform, and more.
And he’s graciously given me 5 copies to give to this community! Here’s what you’ve got to do:
- Comment below stating with passion that you’re a writer, darn it!
- Tweet this blog post and include @JeffGoins in it!
- Like it, Google+ it, for more entries!
Thanks Jeff! Here’s to those writers who may never have gotten the encouragement that they desperately wanted but never needed…!

I am a writer! Damnit, I just need to improve my voice and make it what I feel it can be!
Tweeted and Facebook’d!
Amen!
I’m a freakin’ writer, hear me ROAR!
BELIEVE it!
I’m a WRITER!!! RAWRRRR!!!
I love writing’s ability to help me process life! There’s something about putting my thoughts into words that allows me to see clearer that which is only a wisp of a thought a few moments before!
I am a writer, and sometimes, a good one!
They were the best of times and they were the worst of times. Those are the times when I’m writing!
I’m a writer!
Social media: accomplished!
The Great gatsby? haha
The great Charlesby. he he
A Tale of Two Charleses, actually.
I’m a writer, there I said it
I have heard a lot about this ebook….seems awesome! How did Jeff make this? Like what software?
Brandon, for the PDF, I just used MS Word for Mac (it’s actually pretty easy to do). For the Nook and Kindle versions, I used this service: http://yourdigitalbook.com.
I am a writer, darn it!
I am a writer
debs, congrats! you’re one of the winners!
Some days, I stare at a blank screen, longing for the words to come out. Other days, I can’t seem to type fast enough. But no matter what day it is, I keep on writing because I have too…and not because someone is forcing me to, but because I love what I do!
I’m a writer damn it!!
love it
I am a writer. Of course I am, and don’t anyone tell me otherwise.
I don’t just to be a writer, I AM a writer!
I AM a writer. I’ve even been paid to do so. So I guess that makes me a “professional”. Now if I could just “create a brand” and get better pay to do what I do!
Woof!
I is a writer, ain’t nobuddy gonna say different! I’m just not a speller or grammarian.
Also did that social media stuff.
carl, congrats! you’re one of the winners!
Every night I save stories to my Pocket and in the morning I read them. Once done I can’t help but think of an article to compose and get published to gather more opinions. This makes me a writer and it’s my constant challenge!
Hey John, you’re a good writer … I am glad you do it professionally!
Pro Blogger = Pro Writer
I learn a lot from Tentblogger.
Thanks!
when I was a kid, I built cities with Legos.
when I was a teenager, I built songs with chords and melodies.
Now I’m a young adult and I build blog posts and essays with words and phrases.
I like to think of myself as an architect of thought, but I could also just say I’m a writer!
I. am. a. writer. Wow, that felt good! Would love to win this!
kelli , congrats! you’re one of the winners!
I am a writer and I now even tell people that I am a writer. It is what I do. It is what I love to do. It is what I want to do.
I’m a writer and I write well because I know so and I’ve been told so. I like writing and I like blogging because blogging is writing and the cool thing about blogging is that my words on a blog become a living extension of my consciousness that’s available 24/7 (even while I’m stuffing my face or sleeping).
There are few things more beautiful to me than a perfectly crafted blog post. I’m a writer, gee dang it, I don’t care who knows it!
I am a writer. It says so on my business cards. Sure, I had to print them myself – but hey, I have to say it myself first before others will believe it!
I have a passion for writing.
I am a writer!
Writing is in my blood and I bleed words! Can you say passion?
lincoln, congrats! you’re one of the winners!
I am a story-teller. That is an easy title to claim. From a preschool age, I was asked by adults and children to spin them a yarn, to give them a tale. Entertainment wasn’t as prepackaged then; it wasn’t at the touch of a screen.
Writers were exotic creatures that inhabited smoke-filled salons chatting knowingly, smug-faced, while idly swirling Scotch in a rock glass to hear it chime and tinkle.
Authors were nearly mythological, akin to dinosaurs and dodos. A LIVING Author seemed as impossible breathing wooly mammoth.
I think my childhood images still inform my fears. And I believe I’m far from alone.
I am a storyteller, I am an artist, I am a writer, I am an author, I am a creative…I also am a member of Jeff’s tribe.
Can’t wait to read the rest of the book. Congratulations, Jeff!
I’m a writer, dadblame it! I blog, I freelance, I occasionally work on my novel. Branding is a challenge when I wear so many other hats.
And wear them so well, too!
I am a Holy Spirit inspired writer!
kari,, congrats! you’re one of the winners!

I am NOT A WRITER, ROARRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!
I am a typer.
For you language purist:
Typer = Typist
And it rhymes with writer, so therefore I like it better.
I think I can, I think I can, I can, I can.
Yea I am a writer from this moment on.
How can forget? Thanks for all your help Jeff!
