I’m a Library Blogger Today – How About You?

I’m spending some time in the library today as I put some effort into finishing some blog posts while drafting a few others. It’s quiet in here!

It’s rare that you find spaces these days with lots of people but where it’s almost completely silent – have you ever thought about that? The culture of a library is silence; how different!

So when was the last time your were a public library? Were you there to check out books? Do some research? Use the free internet? Hang out?

It’s certainly been a while for me!

  1. Had a question for you, but couldn’t find anywhere else to post it.

Are you using the addthis plugin for that scrolling bar on the left side of your site? I can’t figure out how to make it display like that…

  2. Being a homeschool family, we go ALL THE TIME. Did you know that there is a 75 book limit per card in the Gwinnett Library system?

  3. I am here at least once a week with the kids. For myself, it’s been since college in 95.

  4. Looks like the DTS library? I spent many hours there.

  5. I sometimes find myself at the library at my University. Only place other than my room that I can get some actual work done. Big, quiet, air conditioned, with comfortable seats, plenty of books, and free internet.

  6. I totally heart the library! But, I have a really hard time concentrating there because there are so many people & its beautifully designed. Recently discovered that the King County Library System (Seattle) is the busiest in thhe country. If only I could stop people watching & get some work done..

  7. I discovered your blog few days ago. Such a great inspiration! I’m just wondering why you don’t have a wordpress plugin like wp post or something to read your posts on a smartphone? I’m in a launderette right now and scrolling pages on a smartphone is boring. This is not a reproach, just one question. Jordan from France!

  8. Man, I miss my libray days during college. I LOVED that place. Like Andy, I am finding myself there often for the kids but not for me.

  9. I go to the libraries in my city all the time. One library has a coffee shop on the bottom floor. I take my kids once a week and they love it. I get totally inspired. I love books…and silence! (it’s not so silent when my kids are there but we go in the kid friendly hours and spaces)

  10. I love libraries! Just yesterday I became a member (for free!) to the library system at the Metropolitan Museum of Art – how cool is that?! I love going to libraries for their quiet, yet creative-juice-inducing environments. I ALSO love to work in Museums. You don’t want to do that on a weekend (too many ankle biters), but if you can find a nice artsy museum with some quiet space – maybe a bench in front of a Monet or something – it’s a great place to bang out some blog posts/ book chapters/ email tirades.

  11. My job keeps me driving around all day and often quite a drive from home or the office, so I often stop into the library to do paperwork (so I’m not sitting in my car running the AC!) or to use the internet. I love that place.

  12. Hi John,

I am at the library quite a bit. I usually get most of my books from there since I love to read and usually read about 3-4 books a month.

I just love the library, and the people there are always so nice. I usually read just before bed as it relaxes me. Nice post
    !

Jacksonville Public Library has tons of resources for children; my sons like it :)

  14. I use the public library to blog when I visit family. Neither of our parents have internet access so it’s the best place to go for free wi-fi- and I love it! Libraries are beautiful, magical places of quiet discovery. I’m glad I have an excuse to escape there now and then.

  15. I love the library and love the librarian (my wife’s a rock star in our town as the children’s librarian). I’ve volunteered there, read there, wrote there, studied there…and I appreciate the WIFI connection–better than home–so I can get stuff done.

  16. I love going to my local library. I worked in an academic library for six years, so I have a deep appreciation for the services and resources that libraries offer.

    Free books @ your library
I love your blog and the info. I am getting.
Hopefully in the future I will be able to have some hobby blogs, hopefully, that’s my goal.
    I do know libraries, however.
FYI: Libraries are a source of free to the public, books, e-books, videos, DVD’s and CD’s, among other things.
An added +++++ if you need a book and it is not in your library you can get it from another library through inter library loan. Larger libraries have this free service.
I have borrowed books from all over the US and Canada for research and leisure reading.
You literally don’t ever have to buy a book, saving $$$$$$ It eventually be available thru inter library loan.
You probably know this but you wouldn’t believe the people there who don’t!

  18. The last time I was in the library was at the end of May. I was needing to get a book so I could study for the GMAT. It’s an exam that I am studying for so I can get into an MBA program. I’ve also used the study rooms in the library in the past, its amazing how much work you can actually get done, and how silent it is!
