My team over at 8BIT has recently announced the release of a fantastic WordPress Theme for live events and live broadcasting!
Of course, I had to use it for my weekly live broadcast here on TentBlogger Live!
You can learn more about Live Theme here!
It was easy to setup and has a really sweet looking countdown widget to let the community here know when the next broadcast will be!
A spot in the middle showcases Live Chat as well as the Schedule and more.
Slick, right? This will really take the engagement level of our community to the next level!
I’m really proud of my team – they did a phenomenal job on a limited amount of time. Hat tips go to all of them, @Dewde, @Tomsfoolery, @AllisWell, @Manovotny!

cannot wait to use this myself.
One quick question or maybe assumption. Can you just take a livestream account embed and paste that into the standardlive options section and start streaming?
you could do that with any theme if you wanted. i just wanted to make a bit more slick.
amazing. Saving my money now to buy this theme. Got some ideas.
sweet. can’t wait to see it.
Congrats to the entire team! You will see me using this early next year!
I’ll tweet you when I am because this is so slick.
SWEET! please do!
I can tell you you’ve put a lot of work into it
thanks! we definitely did.
wow, that looks so pro.
Think some of might get together next week and bother you a little from this side of the world
sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!
Probably The slickest live theme i’ve seen. EVER!
it definitely looks great! @alliswell put some nice juice on it!
Very cool!
thanks randy! very excited!
Loved it on Catalyst Backstage. Outstanding.
So technically this could also be used for non-LIVE event too right? Example: I could have a recorded VIMEO video of a featured talk and create an event by it being released at a certain time (making it almost like a LIVE event) but still benefit from the live community interaction components? Right?
If so, I see LOTS of additional ideas popping into my head with several authors and speakers that I work with.
yeah you can totally do that. just set the countdown, it will roll bumper ads until it hits 0 then switch on the vimeo/video you embed to play.
and you….. again!
Yep, you’re right. It will take any embed code, live or not!
who are you?
can’t wait to see what you come up with!
I’ll have to get out of work one of these days and make it to a live broadcast…
do it! love to see it.
This is so completely sick…whew. I love it. I’m gonna have to do something with this soon. I first need to figure how to get some decent live streaming done. (perhaps a future blog post for you guys?) But I like that you can use it even for archived stuff.
Kuddos to the whole team. You guys have skills….and thanks for contributing to The Church.
sure thing bro! we love what we do!
Oh….and btw, i’m going to make sure to make it this next week to the live broadcast you do. Something keeps coming up every week, but next week I WILL make it!
if you can……!
One quick question:
I could not see any documentation on how the start times of the broadcasts are setup. I did see the demo page that displayed the upcoming broadcast times, but no instructions were provided on how that is setup.
Our church has a service each evening and 3 on Sunday. Do I simply input all the service times into the admin at once, where the counter would count down to the next time. How does it handle knowing when to restart the countdown timer once the live broadcast has ended?
I suppose what I am after, is a system where I can input all the ‘regular’ broadcast times, and when the counter hits zero, it shows the player. After I finish broadcasting, I should then be able to click a button, and have the countdown timer start counting down to the next broadcast in line.
Is this somewhat how the system works?
Hey dude,
We’ve some documentation in the pipeline that we plan to have out soon.
That said, the event counter basically only handles one event at a time. You simply specify the date (month, day, year) and time (hour and minute), and then it will begin counting down from the current date to the time.
Once it reaches zero, it will fade out the countdown and fade in the video feed.
Once the broadcast has ended, you’ll need to reconfigure the date for the next event (though it’s really easy).
Finally, the regular broadcast times can be specified in a normally WordPress page and displayed on a tab like you see on TentBlogger Live.
Hope this helps!
Tom
Thanks for the information, really appreciated. I do look forward to the video in order to see how an event is setup with your system, as it might answer a few remaining questions.
Shawn:
We also have a video in the works so that you can really see it in action.

Dudes,
I would have to purchase an additional domain name for this and do a full WP install correct?
Or can I run it off of a sub-domain?
I would ideally want to use http://www.mydomain.com/live
I heart 8Bit
you don’t have to have a new domain… just install it in that sub-folder.
SOLD! when you say sub-folder, you mean via FTP?
So do I create a new folder within my server?
Sorry dude, I’m still learning
Hey Bud, unfortunately not.
I did leave a question in the forum, but Michael must be pretty busy.
What do you mean by sub-folder though?
you could put it at……… http://url.com/sub-folder/
LOL, I’m so sorry dude, it’s just not getting through to me for some reason.
Where is the sub folder located? In other words, where am I actually installing the theme itself?
I install it overtop a WordPress install right?
Or am I creating a folder on my server, and dropping the theme in that folder?
folder on your server off your root.
so it’s like …….. http://domain.com/LIVETHEME
Yup, check it yo
http://thebroadstreetjournal.com/live
still under construction but it’s a start
great job! that’s how it’s done.
Quick question-what broadcasting service did you use?
I noticed there are some native Mac apps like Quicktime Broadcaster & Podcast Creator
But I also saw some web-based services like Livestream and USTREAM
What are your thoughts/suggestions for that?
Thanks dude!
livestream is pretty sick… i’ve used that!
Awesome…I’m checking this out right now!
I would love to use something native to the Mac, but this looks like it should work.
I downloaded Quicktime Broadcaster, but apparently you need the Apple Server, which at $49, is probably worth getting just to expirement with.
Have you ever used server?
yup, but i really like the simplicity of livestream at this point. the challenge is the advertising.
I’m experimenting with Podcast Publisher and Quicktime Broadcaster on the MAC.
Having some trouble setting up the server app and XML feed, but it looks like it’s pretty sweet.
I’ll keep you posted
sweet! love to see what you do.
