Using Live Theme for Weekly Live Broadcasts (WordPress Theme)

November 11, 2010 — 46 Comments

My team over at 8BIT has recently announced the release of a fantastic WordPress Theme for live events and live broadcasting!

Of course, I had to use it for my weekly live broadcast here on TentBlogger Live!

You can learn more about Live Theme here!

It was easy to setup and has a really sweet looking countdown widget to let the community here know when the next broadcast will be!

A spot in the middle showcases Live Chat as well as the Schedule and more.

Slick, right? This will really take the engagement level of our community to the next level!

I’m really proud of my team – they did a phenomenal job on a limited amount of time. Hat tips go to all of them, @Dewde, @Tomsfoolery, @AllisWell, @Manovotny!

  1. cannot wait to use this myself.

One quick question or maybe assumption. Can you just take a livestream account embed and paste that into the standardlive options section and start streaming?

  2. Congrats to the entire team! You will see me using this early next year! ;) I’ll tweet you when I am because this is so slick.

  3. wow, that looks so pro.
Think some of might get together next week and bother you a little from this side of the world :P

  4. Probably The slickest live theme i’ve seen. EVER!

  5. Loved it on Catalyst Backstage. Outstanding.

So technically this could also be used for non-LIVE event too right? Example: I could have a recorded VIMEO video of a featured talk and create an event by it being released at a certain time (making it almost like a LIVE event) but still benefit from the live community interaction components? Right?

If so, I see LOTS of additional ideas popping into my head with several authors and speakers that I work with. :)

  6. I’ll have to get out of work one of these days and make it to a live broadcast…

  7. This is so completely sick…whew. I love it. I’m gonna have to do something with this soon. I first need to figure how to get some decent live streaming done. (perhaps a future blog post for you guys?) But I like that you can use it even for archived stuff.

Kuddos to the whole team. You guys have skills….and thanks for contributing to The Church.

  8. Oh….and btw, i’m going to make sure to make it this next week to the live broadcast you do. Something keeps coming up every week, but next week I WILL make it!

  9. One quick question:

I could not see any documentation on how the start times of the broadcasts are setup. I did see the demo page that displayed the upcoming broadcast times, but no instructions were provided on how that is setup.

Our church has a service each evening and 3 on Sunday. Do I simply input all the service times into the admin at once, where the counter would count down to the next time. How does it handle knowing when to restart the countdown timer once the live broadcast has ended?

I suppose what I am after, is a system where I can input all the ‘regular’ broadcast times, and when the counter hits zero, it shows the player. After I finish broadcasting, I should then be able to click a button, and have the countdown timer start counting down to the next broadcast in line.

Is this somewhat how the system works?

    • Hey dude,

We’ve some documentation in the pipeline that we plan to have out soon.

That said, the event counter basically only handles one event at a time. You simply specify the date (month, day, year) and time (hour and minute), and then it will begin counting down from the current date to the time.

Once it reaches zero, it will fade out the countdown and fade in the video feed.

Once the broadcast has ended, you’ll need to reconfigure the date for the next event (though it’s really easy).

Finally, the regular broadcast times can be specified in a normally WordPress page and displayed on a tab like you see on TentBlogger Live.

      Hope this helps!
      Tom

      • Thanks for the information, really appreciated. I do look forward to the video in order to see how an event is setup with your system, as it might answer a few remaining questions.

    • Shawn:

We also have a video in the works so that you can really see it in action.

    Dudes,

I would have to purchase an additional domain name for this and do a full WP install correct?

Or can I run it off of a sub-domain?

I would ideally want to use http://www.mydomain.com/live
