Meh.
[Part of theĀ Designing the TentBlogger Brand Image Series.]
Sometimes you simply don’t have the interest or energy to produce much content or to engage with your blog and/or your community. Or, there’s that lagging technical issue or plugin that you haven’t installed and you just don’t have the time to do it right now.
Sometimes, you just feel “meh” and I think that’s ok! The challenge of course is making sure that you can get back to a productive spot after you’ve taken that “break” so that you can continue to pump out that awesome content that’s just waiting to be published!
To be honest, I’ll wake up at least 2 to 3 times a week and sit down and think “meh… i’m tired and not sure I want to do this.” But after getting some coffee, finding some inspiration, or talking to my team, I’ll get back in the saddle and publish!
When was the last time you were feeling a bit “meh”? Let’s hear it (as well as how you got over it)!

I rely on several different outlets to guide my content for the day. There are many mornings when I look around and only see 1 or 2 posts that I am interested in. This can be challenging in terms of inspiration for creating content. At this point you keep on looking and paying attention, at some point a hot button issue (to you) or an amazing post will inspire you to add in to the conversation. Meh is normal, the internet is unpredictable. Grab a cup of coffee and hit refresh.
Do you have any particular blogs or websites you go to for inspiration?
a few.
I hit up http://www.newsftw.com almost hourly
WIN!
Do you have any specific blogs or websites you go to for inspiration?
haha. dude. love this. how are you btw?
Do you really have an 8Bit t-shirt?
I would love a team to keep me accountable when it comes to blogging, or even someone to bounce ideas off and get some input for future blog posts.
That’s what a blogging buddy is for!
seriously!
no, i don’t… i need one!
Today!
I feel overwhelmed and totally “meh.”
Yet, for the firs time, I am ahead in my righting (only by 1 post more than usual but it’s a start!)
When I feel “meh” I take a walk, grab some tea, and read through some old notes (I keep a bunch of notes at my desk so I can run through them to get my memory going). Sometimes I’ll listen to a podcast or read for awhile. It always helps!
what tea?
My favorite is Twinning’s Irish Breakfast, but any black tea will do
Felt kinda “meh” last night, but had a good Skype chat
. Felt “meh” all day today, had a good chat with the wife.
right now. I’ve already missed 2 of my personal deadlines and didn’t post the extra post I was thinking about last night.
Now I just want to call it a wash and start again tomorrow, but if I do that I’ll be stuck in the same boat. I have to jump out now and get it done. Just had a great dinner with the family and some chocolate cake. Ready to go!
great dinner with family is awesome.!
I am a new blogger, and getting started on a blog should be very exciting and I should be having ZERO “meh” moments right? WRONG. It has been hard for me to wrangle in my thoughts and put something on “paper” (online actually huh?). Often, when I sit down to write something I get the feeling of “meh.” What would be interesting for people to read? Just because I am interested doesn’t mean I can convey it correctly or make other people interested right?
Slowly, I’m learning that to get over this problem I just need to focus my thoughts on one idea and go with it. The useful content and followers will come in time.
yes, you’re right! they will come over time. keep at it and don’t give up!
Anytime I feel “meh” I go do something. Whether it’s working out, playing with my kids, doing chores or reading a book. I find that activity helps squash the “meh” feeling and gets the juices flowing.
Am loving the series of graphics, btw. I like how your blogging “tools” are integrated into the images.
thanks man!
i’m enjoying them too.
I’m a pastor. I feel “meh” *every* Monday.
We have 4 worship services every Sunday so I take Monday’s off. No calls. No “work”. Only what I want to do … which is usually one pot of coffee, jazz, blogs, & books. Come five o’clock, I’ve moved through the “meh’s” one more week. Ahhhh ….
LY
positive thinking…..!
I feel “Meh” a couple of times a month at work. Many times I really don’t want to do anything on the Saturdays especially after a terribly busy week.
rough weeks make it tough, that’s for sure.
I feel like this pretty much all day. Its a constant battle of will power beginning with getting out of bed because lets face it “meh” it would be easier not to. I had a professor as a nineteen year old undergrad challenge us to make our bed every morning. Not the most ambitious goal but it was a good way to start the day. She said, the its not difficult, you’re perfectly capable and self discipline starts at 7am. Blogging is the same way, quit whining, just sit down and do it. not a big deal and you will feel good about it.
love that attitude.!
So timely. It’s like you’re inside my head John. I was feeling this way yesterday. After my morning meeting I went to my office to try and knock out some projects and just couldn’t do anything. So I went home to get some lunch and attempt to get my mojo back. Nothing… went to Starbucks and finally felt productive. With the coffee and the people around me on their laptops… I was able to get through some emails.
get it done!
Last week. This year I’ve been consistently posting 4 to 5 times a week. Last week I posted only twice. I needed a break and there was a lot of other stuff going on. It felt great and I didn’t worry about it. It’s only Tuesday and I’ve already posted twice this week.
glad you’re not beating yourself up about it.
I feel “meh” most of the time. I guess that’s what Seth Godin calls “The Resistance”. That’s why I always try to have a few mentally “easy” posts available to publish on those days like lists, music recommendations, etc. It’s funny how those very posts get most of the traffic too
Then all I need is a little Tentblogger inspiration and some coffee and I’m back to brilliance
Hopefully.
i feel that resistance every single day.
I write a column every week for Live As If.org and two for Everyday Christian.com and sometimes it is very difficult to write something poignant as well as inspiring when the Mehs settle around my computer. I used to read a lot of blogs everyday when I first started blogging to see what others were writing about, and invariably I’d run across a blog of someone who was complaining about not having anything to write about! Gasp! I decided I would never complain about no brain waves or no blog inspiration.
That one decision made me push harder, reach farther for the perfect inspirational post. I found that the Meh Syndrome actually produced better posts that when I began a post inspired with a subject.
Coffee is a must. Large windows to experience outside a must. A prayer for inspiration a must. Then write. If it isn’t any good, I start over with another blank page and write. God never fails me and He usually pokes me with the thought, “You’ll need this later on.” He has always been right.
haha! coffee is a most with large windows.
love that!
