I had the amazing pleasure to fund Dean Heckler’s Kickstarter campaign for his new product, One Less Drop, which is a beautifully-simplistic concept that I immediately fell in love with! It’s been a long 6 months of waiting (and watching) as Dean took his fundraising and created an amazing piece of hardware, one that I think will make him a gazillionaire (I hope!).
What is it? It’s simply a power cord anchor for your laptop power cable, USB cables, mobile device cables, and more. Simply genius!
I instantly resonated with the problem of having to constantly fish for them as they feel behind my desk or out of sight – ugh! But, with Dean’s ingenuity I would no longer ever suffer the time it takes to find that darn cord!

As a result I instantly backed him up at the highest fundraising level which secured me three of the beautifully-polished metal ones and an exclusive Kickstarter-only red one. There was supposed to be a gold one in the mix but it didn’t work as well (no big deal)!
There are so freaking gorgeous and the weight, texture, and feel of these babies are to die for. Incredible edition to any desk space!

Perfectly functional and brilliantly executed. Again, I think he’ll sell a million of them!

And as you can see, I’m already using them!

Insanely-cool, right? What’s more insane is that I’m willing to give one away to my community here! I have no idea what Dean will ultimately be selling them for but whatever the cost it’s well worth the money (and the time saved fishing for power cords!).
Win One of My KickStarter Editions!
Seriously. I’m going to give away one of my silver ones to this community because you guys are so awesome. I’m actually sad to part with any of them but I thought it would seriously be worth it.
You know the drill:
- Comment below telling me how much time you think you lose picking up lost power cords every year. +1 entry.
- Tweet this post (including a thank you to @deanheckler for being our cord savior!) for another +1 entry.
- Facebook “Like” this post for another +1 entry.
Yeah. That’s about it. Amazing stuff! Of course, for more information check out his KickStarter page or his official page here. Check out these other sweet pics too:

Oh yeah… with the signature!

And… me. Happy customer.

Dean, you’re awesome.
Winner!
Wow, we had a lot of entries! And it was awesome!
But, there can only be one winner, and that winner is Nathan Bingham!
Please email me address by this Friday, September 23rd 2011 to claim it!
As usual, we’ll have more contests and giveaways soon!

I want one!
Those are sick! I need something like this. Would love to have one or two.
Could totally use one of those.
I hate crawling around under the desk, banging my head…and I probably do spend at least a half hour every month doing that..and another half hour cursing the underside of my desk.
Awesome. Looks like the perfect solution to landing pad (desk) setup issues! Very nice. Bet it shaves a minute from every take off and land…4x per day…260 days a year…that’s over 17 hours of under the desk monkey business saved!
I want one!!
Very nice! With my stand up desk while I’ve been able to keep most of my cords out of the reach of my exploring boys, I always tend to lose a cable or two behind the desk when I pull my laptop off to use it elsewhere. Not the easiest place to recover cords from.
These things look awesome. Wish I saw this sooner so I could have participated in the kickstarter
Thanks everybody. It’s been a long haul making OneLessDrop a reality. Everybody has been very supportive. Now that all my Kickstarter backers will have their OneLessDrop(s) in the coming days, I’m building my inventory back up so to make them available to everyone via hecklerdesign.com. As each unit is hand-polished, it’ll take some time to make enough for everyone. I do intend to make them available in batches, in the near term, exclusively to those folks who have placed their email on the “Notify Me” list at hecklerdesign.com/onelessdrop. So please join that list.
Pricing is TBD, but expect $25 to $29, inclusive of continental US USPS shipping.
Silver, hand-polished only for now. The reds (and other colors) will be phased in later.
As for the missing gold/yellow color on the signature series, this change was announce earlier in a backer-only Kickstarter update. The hand-polished silver just looked too good to cover in yellow. Then, later, I decided to ditch the bead-blasted finish for a hand-polished finish for all OneLessDrops, not just the Signature Series. So, yes, the only difference between the regular units, and the Signature Series is the signature. Oh, and I’ll soon be adding all Gold-lever Kickstarter backer’s names to OneLessDrop’s product page, as promised.
Thanks again for all the patience and support. OneLessDrop was intended to be a very special product – the most elegant way to anchor a power cord. As such, a lot of extra time and care has to go in to each one.
If I consider all the times I have ended up moving my desk around or rearanging my monitor on my desk simply because i was having to fish out a cord from behind my desk, it would amount to some serious distraction time. This seems like a “duh” invention that could become the pencil holder of our generation. Good stuff!
Since I’ve been using a standup desk for two months now, I need one when I need to unplug my power from my Macbook Pro! It’s annoying to have to bend down to pick it up.
Looks very stylish!
All the greatest products of success are the ones that are such simple design to address a common problem…One Less Drop will definitely be the next up and coming success! Would love to have one as well!
Oh man, these are very good. I think they’d likely save me anywhere from 1 to 2 hours per year, especially on the external HD cords.
Kickstarter is a great place!
These are really a good idea Dean.
I guess I lose 15 seconds a day fishing for cords… that’s about an hour and a half a year.
But it’s about 75 million frustration points a year. So this is a worthy cause!
These are amazing, simple yet so helpful. I’d love to have one of these, I think it’d save me hours in the year, it’d stop me having to crawl under my desk several times each day just to collect my lead as it drops down the back yet again!
My girlfriend bought a stainless steel Blomus keyholder with tray that holds the mail… you hang it on the wall. I’ve never had to look for my keys ever again. Anything that saves your insanity because we often misplace things, are great products!! Thank you Dean for your creativity and ingenuity!
Any shortcuts in life that save time are a godsend. Thank you Dean! I’m always fishing my iPhone cord under my office desk. Yes, it’s always awkward and annoying… being careful not to hit my head. So… I guess the product not only saves us time but bandaids for those boo-boo’s when we hit our noggin fumbling around on our knees under the desk!
John, I spend WAY too much time trying to organize my cords and would LOVE one!
RIght now I have a 3 hole paper punch and a post it note dispenser holding down usb cords from chargers and the computer… this would take my desk from ghetto to high-class
This is an amazing solution to a problem that I have had. I love the simplicity of the design and look forward to getting a few of them and possibly giving them as gifts.
I spend the MAJORITY of each year picking up power cords….
I NEED this….
Please.

I go fishing for my iPhone and iPad charging cables all too frequently. One of these would be awesome!
Send one my way please!
Since I’m getting older, I lose even more time. It takes me longer to get back up.
This would be super sweet in my office since the back of my desk is not accessible
I tweeted with S/O and liked on facebook. Enjoy yours John!
i hate losing cords through the back of my desk, and since i use my laptop with a display at home, that’s a couple usb’s, vga, power, 1/8″ audio, and sometimes firewire cable to hook up to my laptop – all susceptible to falling behind my desk. i’ve lost years, YEARS off my life trying to find my freaking vga cable alone when it falls. it’s not a question of if, it’s when. my old roommie came up with a temporary solution of using binder clips of various sizes clipped to the desk with the wires going through it so it won’t fall down, which i thought was an ingenious idea, but i can’t find any large enough to clip onto my desk. this product is brilliant in its simplicity.
Awesome! I’d love to win one of these…I would give it to my dad because he is the CEO of an insurance agency. He could really use one of these because he spends a lot of time on power cords! haha
Beautiful design + beautiful functionality = beautifully brilliant! I’d love to win one!
Very cool. 2min per dropped cord x 3drops per week x 52 weeks= 5hrs 20 min time saved . It would be awesome to have one!
Seriously, I calculated how much time I spend picking up cords after they fall helplessly to the floor. It turns out that I have wasted approximately nine years of my life. Please help my efficiency peak with this little gadget!
More seriously, this looks really cool.
Oh with one of those I could get rid of the ugly Scotch Tape I use to hold down and keep track of a couple of cables! The tape is an eyesore and one of these would add cool factor!!
John you lucky bugger, if only I could be so lucky and get one of yours ^.^
Wow…this does seem like an awesome product. Ever single night I have to pickup my iPhone power chord from the floor, put it back on my night table, and then connect my iPhone to it. Pretty annoying. This would certainly help to remedy that. Hope I get it!
John,
OK, besides the fact that the product is more like a work of art than a utilitarian device; and besides the fact that it looks like some kind of sweet custom-made device you’d see on American Chopper or Sons of Guns; and besides the fact that YOU are using it which automatically gives it street cred…
Besides all of that, I can finally stop using my office TRASH CAN as my cord catcher. Trading ugly for beauty…that’s what I call a winner! If you have one to spare I’d be delighted to receive it. Thanks for thinking of your readers…AGAIN, as you always do!
Help my husband, please. Everynight I listen to him root around for the cord to charge his phone…ugh. He does this all without exiting the bed, stretched out, limbs flying about. One of these days he’s going tumble; his 6′ 5″ frame will hit the floor, but not before taking me with him in the process. Have mercy on me, please.
Sweet! I want one too!
10 seconds a day (5 in picking up the cord and 5 in wondering why a solution hasn’t been invented) which equals over 60 hours a year!
Would love a free solution!
Those are pretty awesome
I don’t comment for giveaways very often, but I lost my power cord and speaker cable when disconnecting my laptop to take with me to the library this afternoon. I’ve gotten pretty good at wedging them under books, so I only drop a few times a week now and it only takes 30-seconds if I’m willing to push the desk out from the wall (a minute or two if I’m stubborn and try to fish them), so I’ll attempt a wild guess at an hour or two per year. The real problem isn’t the time or even the general frustration, but a service-connected head injury that makes crawling around and going underneath things difficult. When I’m done submitting this comment, I’m off to add my email to the notification list.
These things are beautiful. I’d love to rock this on my desk. I believe my productivity will skyrocket
Brilliant! I would love to have one (or more) for my workspaces.
I’ve been thinking about this post (after dropping my cords again today.)
The time lost isn’t just the time spent bending over to fish cables, but the time I waste not working because I’m frustrated and don’t feel like fishing cables. Win, buy, or find something else, I’m recognizing just how much something as seemingly insignificant as cable management can interrupt workflow.
