Did you know that most “genius” and “ground-breaking” ideas are, at their core, based on the ordinary? Did you know that most of the clever ideas that I’ve had are rather implementations on the somewhat mundane?

Once you realize this it forever changes your perspective of entrepreneurship. You don’t have to be fantastical or super-human; you just need to open your eyes a bit wider and listen a little more carefully to the needs that you and your peers have.

This year I’ll be speaking at a number of conferences and my theme will essentially be how one discovers incredible opportunity in the ordinary. I can’t wait to share my experience.

  1. So much to learn and know! Wish I was there, but duty calls! Definitely am sure people will be blessed by your material and information!

  2. I have a book on play writing that I read on-and-off. One tip the author gives is that he often has people approach him with play ideas, wanting him to write it and go 50/50 on the profits, and he always turns them down – but encourages them to write the script themselves and bring it to him for advice.

His logic is that ideas are plentiful, but the actual implementation is what’s valuable, because so rarely do people actually turn a good idea into a good product. I try to keep that in mind when working on projects.

Or as Thomas Edison put it, “Genius is one percent inspiration, ninety-nine percent perspiration”.
