I travel a lot and spend a lot of time in transit. Over the years I’ve been able to capitalize on these moments as mental drafting boards for content.
In this video I discuss one such particular strategy: Patterns.
This is a super-easy technique that you can begin to use and has proven to be critical to creating content en-masse.

It’s a strategy I leverage daily.

Nice video quality! Wondering how you managed to create it? Any 2-minute-tips on that? Also, a great suggestion about how to tap into available resources via teh radio, then develop patterns while commuting. Do you dictate your ideas as you drive? Record them all on video as you drive? Trust your memory?
iPhone 4!
Thanks for sharing the tip about patterns. Do you draft them in Evernote while off the road?
yes. Evernote is my goto source for locking down drafts
My most productive blog content production time has been when I’m roasting coffee. One night I came up with about a dozen post ideas.
I’ve only finished about half of them, however.
Yea I do that too. (50% completion that is).
it’s a start!
Excellent tip, and good use of video too. When thinking in patterns, do you think about structure of content and use of medium as well? Looking forward to follow your progress and to learn more on how to set up my own blog.
i think of the specific content, not structure. that can come later when i draft.
Great tip, John. I actually use travel time in the same way. Although I’ve traveled quite a bit the last few months, I’m not usually on the road this much. However, I will often use local commuting time or ah hour stop at the coffee shop as a time to develop blogging ideas.
Question…as you draft ideas in your head. How do you catalog them until you come back to actually write the blog? Do you rely entirely on your memory? That might be dangerous for me!
Thanks for the blogging tips…I’m already a fan of the new blog!
honestly? i make a song. or alliteration.
seriously.
I sometimes cannot trust my brain. I write blog ideas in my Piccadilly book. While driving I have used the voice memo app on my iPod Touch.
that is a great idea!
