This fascinating video captured my attention yesterday as I watched it – I knew there had to be a neat ending to it and there certainly was!

Take a look and be reminded that the words that you write every single day have the power to change someone’s life in the most significant of ways!

The neat thing is that we often don’t hear about the amount of change that our words create and that’s probably a good thing to keep our pride in check.

But, it’s always encouraging now and then to hear a few tidbits from your community – so why don’t you be that one today? Send an email, tweet, or even write a post thanking someone that has impacted you greatly with their words. Let them know that you consider them to be someone special and of significance and encourage them to keep it up!

Love you guys and the community we are building here. I read every single comment and take your opinions, thoughts, and suggestions seriously as if they were my own!

  1. Just finished reading the Steve Jobs post, then I navigate back to the home page and THIS is there – AWESOME! Thanks so much John. It’s been a very discouraging couple of days, but for one reason or another these two blogs have inspired me to get over it. Thank you!

  2. NO LIE my manager showed this to us yesterday in a meeting.

    Great video!

  3. Love this, and already a step ahead of you. It’s amazing the responses I received after sending out personal comment replies with words of encouragement via email. Absolutely love it.

  4. This was great for me because it really represented what I’ve been thinking about lately… that method is just as important as the message. You can have a world-changing idea, but it won’t matter to anyone unless you can communicate it to them well.

I was struggling with this idea from a theological perspective. Does God really care how we communicate? Isn’t just the fact that the Gospel exists enough? He doesn’t need us to polish up His Word does He?

But what I realized is that God created AND communicated. In fact He made the world THROUGH words. Not only did He create the greatest idea/message of all time, but He communicated it effectively through His word and His people. It’s a both/and strategy. Which was really freeing for me as I pursue helping people enhance their communication methods as well as their message.

  5. This is just amazing. Words do make a lot of difference. Thanks for this.

  6. This has even held me back from writing what I want to say, simply because I was afraid the words I wrote wouldn’t be saying what I truly wanted to say.

Its taken quite a bit of positive feedback to keep me writing from my heart and sharing my story. That, and learning to distinguish helpful criticism from negative and hurtful.

Darn negative words have so much more power than they ought to.

  7. Love that video. One of my staff sent it to me last week. There are so many cool takeaways. I’d been mulling over how to blog about it for a couple days, but John your post prompted me to get to writing…

    • this is true!

    • As the father of an autistic boy I know many families who are in similar situations as we are. The difference is that our boy is very verbal. Many are no so lucky. So, when you say, “Words are everything to people,” you are more right than you know.

  10. Pretty Awesome! Thanks Tentblogger!

  11. Thank you for sharing this, John!
    So beautiful and poignant.

I think as bloggers we can really take this to heart since we are “in the business” of words.

  12. WOW, a few of the blogs I follow have posted this, but I only now had a chance to click over and view. So very powerful.

  13. Hi John — thank you for sharing the wonderful video. Your blog is great. I just found you a couple of weeks ago and have been taking copious notes ever since!

It’s true. Words have energy, vibration even. I don’t think we consider what we say or HOW we speak to eachother. The written word is as powerful. It takes so little to turn a negative into a positive, it’s sophmoric. It’s something well worth considering on all fronts of our lives: family, business.

Something so simple can help make our world a better place. Thank you for reminding us… Cheers!

Thanks for the encouragement John. Great video. I’ll tweet this so hopefully other people will come here and be encouraged also.

  15. Well that’s just awesome. Kinda weird it’s for a business though…

  16. Thanks for sharing, that really got to me.

  17. Man I really loved that. Made me smile and gave me goosebumps at the end. Awesome. Thanks for sharing John!

  18. Wow! Here, let me wipe the tear from my eye. Great leadership in taking us to a clearer vision of where we want to be. Thanks!

  19. This video really demonstrates the power of words. There is always multiple ways of saying the exact same thing. I think that’s what makes writers love what they do. It’s because you can have the same message, but convey it in a variety of ways so that everyone can understand exactly what you’re intending to say, but in their own way. So often people say thngs ambivalently without second thought thinking that those words don’t mean anything, but they do. It’s important to always remember that if you’re saying it, someone is more than likely listening.

  20. That is awesome! Is it just me or every time you see video like this it makes you want to do something massive?? haha

  21. With each line a good writer must ask himself, “will this sentence make the reader want to read the next?” This video is a perfect example of a well-written script. It got my attention, built up the anticipation until the very end, and then it didn’t let down. Very cool. Thanks for sharing.

  22. AMAZING Video!.
Why would they use that soundtrack from “Hachiko movie” it nearly made me turn into tears!

  23. John, thanks for re-posting. Two times helps to hammer the message home. And I need a lot of hammering. God bless–Tom
