I filled up the tank to my family’s new minivan this morning and apparently I’ve never done a full-full fill-up because sticker shock rocked my face this morning!
I winded up getting it closer to $76 as I crept towards a full 20 gallons of gasoline – I’ve never personally paid that much for one visit to the pump, ever.
There are some things that I really want to know about and there are others, like this, where I may feel that it’s best that I just don’t know. Putting oneself in the dark on purpose isn’t immature, it’s strategic!
… Just kidding!
What this reminded me was that there are so many things in life that we have yet to experience and/or that we are experiencing right now but are not yet cognizant of them. Something like filling up your gas tank with more gas than you ever wanted to pay for i in one sitting is something small and trivial; there are many more important things that becoming a reality for you right at this moment.
Take some time to reflect this weekend and the rest of today – see what you come up with. Give yourself some time to take full stock of what you’ve got going on, your writing and online publishing efforts, your blog, your business, venture, or startup.
Perhaps it’s more about reflecting about where you are today and where you want to go – what’s that look like? Or, perhaps it’s looking back a bit and seeing how far you’ve come. Has reality struck yet?
I have a few online buddies like Bud Corwin who reads my blog as often as he can – he’s 73 years old and emails me from time to time sharing with me a few reflections he has about some of the things that I write. I am humbled by this type of reader who seems to find something of interest in what I share.
73 years – it’s going to come so quickly. Think about that. We are here and gone like vapor. Reality strikes again.

Ouch! I still stare in amazement when the amount I pay goes past $50. I’m 51, and when we first married in the 80s, that $50 was the total amount my wife and I spent for gas for two cars for the entire month.
Time does fly. What we do with what time God gives us is really what matters most.
I traded in my Scion xA (clown car) for a minivan when we had our second. Filling those things up does put a serious dent in the wallet! You will grow to love your van though.
I would highly recommend a the diesel vw jetta wagon to any of my friends with a kid. I have a golf and I can get between 600 and 900 miles on my 14 gallon tank.
