Running.

February 17, 2010 — 25 Comments

I’m in terrible shape. I’m 190 pounds of asian fatness.

I’ve never been 190 pounds. EVER. And I feel every single pound.

After talking with a friend today I’ve decided that I’m going to start running. Easy, at first. Just 10 minutes he said. A couple times a week.

I’m going to try it.

Please, if you see me, ask me how I’m doing. I give you permission. Yell it from across the room if you want.

It may sting for a second, but it’ll keep me focused.

Thank you.

  1. Crowdsourcing accountability… I like it.

  2. Careful, if you are a perfectionist…it is addicting. I started running 15 to 20 minutes 3 times a week 1.5 years ago. Now I run 3 or 4 times a week at least 4 miles, sometimes for as long as an hour. Weird.

  3. I will add it to the to do list.

  4. I have a friend that has started running as well and swears by this plan http://bit.ly/startrun. From Couch to 5K. Good luck and hope this helps!

  5. John, lets do the Peachtree together. If you start now, you can be ready by July 4th. I see 8bit training tee-shirts.

  8. Cool. I've been feeling my weight gain as well. I was 240 after a weekend in the hospital at the very beginning of October and am 262.6 today. Yikes. While this isn't the most I've weighed, it's far too close to that mark. I'll be swimming. I'd ask the same "accountability" of the 8BIT community for myself. In order to assist with this, I'm keeping an online video journal of my progress. Check it out if you'd like.

I'm reading through Anne Jackson's Mad Church Disease right now (it was free on Kindle yesterday, and may still be- IDK) and the part that has been crucial is knowing that I'm not alone in whatever I'm struggling with- this includes the battle of the bulge.

Thanks John. Looking forward to being not-so-flabby with you man!

  9. I'd give anything to weigh 190lbs… I found the best and quickest way to loose weight was to get on the bike, ride an hour a day or so… Good luck, and take care of your knees

  10. sign up for a race, great source of motivation. The ING half is coming up, or the peachtree is always a fun one too. But be careful with races, they are addicting, I did the music city half a couple of years ago and can't seem to get the race bug out of my system. Soon you will be signing up and running full marathons.

  11. I'm sure you have a smartphone. If you do, get an app that tracks your runs (I use buddyrunner on the Droid). Not only is it motivating, but you can track your progress, and it posts on facebook/twitter for that extra accountability.

  12. My Wife said I'm getting bigger, But when I went to the Dr. he said I've lost 10lbs since last visit, and it worried him.

?¿? What do I make of that? o.0

I have a total Gym and Elliptical machine. The Elliptical beats running anyway! (Plus I can watch TV while doing that)

  13. Hey John, you should check out CrossFit. Lose weight AND get stronger.

  14. One word for you, John: P90x.
I'm telling you, you've got to try it. You can get the dvd's used on ebay. I got it, tried it for a few days, and then let it be….until I spoke with a friend of mine. I saw him at the Catalyst conference in your side of town….he was a little flabby. He got p90x, started doing it every day, and by the end of the 90 days, he lost 35lbs of fat, and put on muscle. I'm reconverted now and am now on day 8 of the system. It's the best way to loose weight cause it's like cross-training and really doesn't let your system ease into any plateaus. Just my thoughts!!!
