Look mom...! No more scrolling!
Ever been frustrated by having to scroll through your Categories just before you publish a blog post? I know I have!
Sometimes I spend way too much time finding that sub-category hidden beneath a bunch of other categories and all I want to do is publish the darn thing!
And if you’re using WordPress as a CMS-like solution for your website and/or your clients then you know by experience how many categories (and sub-categories, and sub-sub-sub-sub-categories) they might have, right?
In some instances it takes longer to find your categories than to write your content!
Wow. That’s just not right!
Well, here’s a very simple solution: Show All Post Categories WordPress Plugin!
Pretty simple concept really, right?
Here’s what the official description says:
This plugin does one very simple thing and yet can change the way you blog by saving you tons of time: It shows all your categories in the blog post editing screen in WordPress.
No more scrolling to find that missing category! This is especially helpful if you’ve got a number of sub-categories as well.

I use this on every single blog that I run as well as many of my clients who have tons of categories (good for CMS-implementations especially).

i’ve said it many times before that fewer categories the better… unless you’ve architected your site really well…!
8-10 is what i recommend.

I currently have 11 (12 if you count uncatagorized, which I don’t use) but I’m phasing 2 of them out to another site (family and photography) so I can focus on my main content. I have 3-4 that tend to overlap a lot but they seem distinct to me: spiritual growth and personal growth. Any ideas on how to combine these and give it a name that will convey both?

This is by far the best and most useful plugin for getting rid of that stupid categories tag in the URL.

By the way, it could be useful to change the Dashboard layout to only one column in order to get even the long categories displayed without many line breaks.

there is a burning issue to me, which is actually off-topic. But maybe you could answer my question regarding category permalinks, though. Do you know a way to use the same slug multiple times for different sub-categories?
example.com/car/red/
example.com/motorcycle/red/

sounds like you need a category / tag combo of architecting information. or, put in a master category called “color” and then you can put your post as a car and color/red, motorcycle and color/red (categories).

These were only examples. My goal is actually to have different sub-categories with same slugs only differ in their superior category, like in other CMS.
