      fixed a bug bro. sorry.

  8. Brian Alexander November 7, 2010 at 1:46 PM #

I tried to add it and change a few things around, like seeing what was causing it to mess up, if it was the fb code, or RSS or twitter feed, but it didn’t work. It doesn’t like my theme is the only thing I can think of.

    • John Saddington November 7, 2010 at 1:48 PM #

      screenshot? what theme?

      • Brian Alexander November 7, 2010 at 2:24 PM #

        http://d.pr/C55w The theme is Arras.

        • John Saddington November 7, 2010 at 2:34 PM #

          i bet it’s competing plugins.

          • Brian Alexander November 7, 2010 at 2:41 PM #

I’ve only got 5 besides this one. I deactivated them and still no luck. You think it’s in the code of the theme?

            • John Saddington November 7, 2010 at 4:17 PM #

perhaps. have you attempted to debug it? waht plugins are you using? probably a conflict with scripts.

              • Brian Alexander November 7, 2010 at 5:59 PM #

                Screenshot of plugins: http://d.pr/20t9

                • Brian Alexander November 7, 2010 at 6:25 PM #

OK, I changed the directory to tentblogger instead of tentblogger-social-widget. The images are showing up, but they are not the right position. See? http://d.pr/HwZs

                  • Joey November 7, 2010 at 7:34 PM #

I have the same problem…but it could be me…I’m not good at this stuff.

                    • John Saddington November 7, 2010 at 7:41 PM #

                      SORRY! FIXED BUG. redownload.

              • Jay November 7, 2010 at 5:19 PM #

Brian, check the path and folder name in the plugins folder. It should be ‘tentblogger’, not ‘tentblogger-social-widget.’ Mine was kind of jacked up as well until I noticed that and changed it. John may have mentioned that in the video but I didn’t watch it.

                • John Saddington November 7, 2010 at 5:24 PM #

actually, i believe it to be the latter…

                  send screenshot of that brian.

                  • Brian Alexander November 7, 2010 at 6:00 PM #

        • John Saddington November 7, 2010 at 8:08 PM #

does your php file say 1.1?

          • Brian Alexander November 7, 2010 at 8:14 PM #

Yes, it’s the new version. What else would you recommend? Mind taking a look at my code?

              • Joey November 7, 2010 at 8:42 PM #

I have the same problem…The change made in the reload helps not having to change the path, but the social site image are out of place. No image for twitter icon. FB and RSS Vertical.
I will check back later…wife needs me.
                Joey

BTW John, I love this. I didn’t mention that before!

  15. David Summers November 8, 2010 at 11:32 AM #

Thanks for the plugin. I love the clean look.

I can’t seem to get it looking right on my site. I’m using Standard Theme, and have disabled all plugins.

Here is a screenshot of what it looks like: http://goo.gl/roKCY

    Any ideas?

    • John Saddington November 8, 2010 at 11:53 AM #

      looking into it!

      • Karsten November 8, 2010 at 12:15 PM #

Hey John, FYI, I’m getting the same results as David. I admire your work and effort. Thanks!

      • David Summers November 17, 2010 at 5:30 PM #

        Hey John –

I fixed my issue posted above.

The PHP URL File Access option was disabled for my install. Enabling this resolved the malformed display issue I was having.

Thanks for all you do! Great job with the widget!

  16. Gabe Taviano November 8, 2010 at 12:51 PM #

    Nice plugin John! The essentials.

  17. Jimmy King November 8, 2010 at 2:33 PM #

Great job! Hopefully I’ll have a place to try this out soon ;-)

  18. Travis Manint November 8, 2010 at 5:01 PM #

    Hey John,

Great plugin! Implementing it on our new site that’s in development now. Have a question for you, what would it take to add a timestamp to twitter and rss posts?

    Thanks!
    Travis

    • John Saddington November 8, 2010 at 10:45 PM #

not too much I suppose. I opted against it because i felt like it didn’t have too much value for people really using twitter… which means the updates are coming in a lot! just get the content and the link!

      • Geeee November 8, 2010 at 11:29 PM #

I think it could be added to the options of the plugin to switch on or off the time stamp!

  19. Geeee November 8, 2010 at 8:39 PM #

Looks so cool, can’t wait to try it but after fixing the bug ;) appreciating your efforts indeed .. keep it up!

  20. davegullett November 9, 2010 at 5:31 PM #

    Beautiful work, Love it.

Having trouble on a new site, though. Fresh WP3.1 with StandardTheme2.
    No other plugins yet activated.

get this error where the twitter feed should be:

Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home/davgul2/prayforindonesia.com/wp-content/plugins/tentblogger-social-widget/tentblogger_social.php on line 124

    here’s line’s 123-25:
    <ul id="tentblogger_twitter_” class=”tentblogger_twitter”>
    <?php foreach($twitter as $tweet):
    if($twitter_img && $tweet['image'])$tweet_img = '’;

Any thoughts you have would be appreciated & and thanks for al the work you put into this site.

    • davegullett November 9, 2010 at 5:44 PM #

make that wordpress 3.0 or something…I’m pretty brand new to this.

      • John Saddington November 9, 2010 at 11:31 PM #

taking a look. I’ll be releasing some fixes soon.

  21. Daniel Decker November 9, 2010 at 5:05 PM #

Did you remove it from the Tentblogger sidebar?

    • John Saddington November 9, 2010 at 7:26 PM #

for a moment. i’m refreshing things.

  22. Chris Loach November 9, 2010 at 11:28 PM #

I had problems with my hosting, dreamhost, after I installed this. I talked to them and once I removed the widget everything started working fine again. Why?

    • John Saddington November 9, 2010 at 11:29 PM #

not sure. i’m going to take another look and recode it soon. :) it works fine but I can make it better.

  23. Jim Gaudet November 11, 2010 at 11:31 AM #

How about the ability to only load on Posts, and not on front page or any page?

    Otherwise, it’s nice so far…

    Good job,

    • John Saddington November 11, 2010 at 2:37 PM #

      ah. that’s a good feature.

  24. DMosley November 11, 2010 at 11:41 AM #

John, I’ve download the most recent version linked above and I’m getting an error codes on a Standard Theme install. Lil help?

Fatal error: Call to undefined method WP_Error::get_items() in /nfs/c03/h06/mnt/54582/domains/seasonfive.org/html/wp-content/plugins/tentblogger-social-widget/tentblogger_social.php on line 56

    • DMosley November 11, 2010 at 11:42 AM #

Oddly enough it works on my personal site, but not on the new one I’m currently setting up.

    • John Saddington November 11, 2010 at 11:45 AM #

seems to be running fine….. you’ve got two of them going… if twitter is down it might break. i’ll have to check.

      • DMosley November 11, 2010 at 11:48 AM #

Seems it just needed your special look. Magically started working w/ no changes. Guess it could have been Twitter like you mentioned.

        Thanks. Great plugin thats lightweight.

  25. Kevin Blakeley November 11, 2010 at 1:43 PM #

Love the concept, but it just doesn’t seem to be working for me on my site. You can check it out at goo.gl/1ZBuh

The tabs don’t switch between twitter and FB

    • John Saddington November 11, 2010 at 2:36 PM #

looks like there is some competing CSS. not an issue with the plugin though. you’ll have to add some style!

  26. Kyle Alm November 11, 2010 at 1:53 PM #

Cool, I wanted to make something similar to this. I guess I won’t have to now.

A lot people named Kyle are all over this plugin…

    • John Saddington November 13, 2010 at 9:22 AM #

      huh. popular…? !

  27. Gustavo Falcón November 11, 2010 at 2:30 PM #

Great! the best social widget. A minimalist design that fits in any format

    • John Saddington November 13, 2010 at 9:21 AM #

      i like keeping it simple.

      sure thing roseli!

  30. Tyler November 12, 2010 at 12:12 PM #

I have a hard time with these sorts of stats on blogs. While I get that they show reputation as a quality blog, it always can come across as bragging to me. It’s a fine line for sure between the two. I just prefer to avoid it for me personally.

    • Tyler November 12, 2010 at 12:14 PM #

and i’m a moron. thought it was a plug in for the subscribers/followers/fans number. that’s what i get for commenting before i watch the video. sorry john.

      • John Saddington November 13, 2010 at 9:21 AM #

we’re thinking about releasing it as a standalone though….

  31. Adam W. Warner November 12, 2010 at 3:43 PM #

Great plugin, just redesigning my site and it’s fitting very nicely:) One request…any chance you could add YouTube channel url as an option?

    • John Saddington November 13, 2010 at 9:20 AM #

      where would this go specifically?

  32. Avinash November 15, 2010 at 9:04 AM #

Looks great and I think it would be great if there was a way add new tabs from the options page..

    • John Saddington November 15, 2010 at 11:59 PM #

      i will consider it!

  33. Avelino November 20, 2010 at 5:00 AM #

    Hi John,

    Thanks for your great work!

I have a problem since I can not display the widget in tabs as I see in your screenshot.
You could check it in the homepage of my blog: http://ideaspracticasenagronomia.com
    This is the screenshot: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3009889/FireShot%20capture.png

Could you help me? Thanks in advance.

    • John Saddington November 21, 2010 at 9:36 PM #

      Avelino,

there are some issues with your CSS. I’m going to re-write this and make it better. Stay tuned.

  34. Elizabeth November 22, 2010 at 10:31 AM #

This widget looks great, I can’t wait to try it? Is there any way to add a flickr stream to one of the tabs? Thanks!

    • John Saddington November 28, 2010 at 1:08 PM #

we could take a look into it…

      • Elizabeth November 29, 2010 at 1:06 PM #

I was able to do it by using a plugin called flickrRSS. After installing both plugins, I replaced the RSS code and graphics in your plugin with the code specified by the flickrRSS plugin support and it works great! You can see it here: blog.sweetletterpress.com

        • John Saddington November 29, 2010 at 3:01 PM #

          sweet! that’s awesome!

  35. Mike Key November 22, 2010 at 11:31 AM #

Great plugin! And I can see some potential for expansion here.

    • John Saddington November 28, 2010 at 1:08 PM #

      sure can!

  36. brad dalton November 27, 2010 at 5:19 AM #

been looking for a plugin like this, thanks

    • John Saddington November 28, 2010 at 1:07 PM #

      sure thing dude!

  37. Nate Risenhoover November 27, 2010 at 11:07 PM #

    Hey John!
Love this plugin, however it does not seem to be functioning correctly on my blog.
I use the StandardTheme2, but this is how the plugin behaves: http://bit.ly/hma7j6

    Could you help me out?
    Thanks, Nate

    • John Saddington November 28, 2010 at 1:07 PM #

      updating it very soon.

  39. Graham December 1, 2010 at 9:00 AM #

Adding it now! It looks very slick! :)

    • John Saddington December 1, 2010 at 9:05 AM #

      awesome!

  40. Drew C David December 1, 2010 at 9:42 AM #

    Hey John,
I love the plugin. Super easy to set up, and I like the way it converts the link to “link.”

One thought/desire: Is it possible to make a mentioned @username linkable?

    Thanks for your awesome help.

    • John Saddington December 1, 2010 at 9:45 AM #

added this as a feature request….!

  41. Graham December 1, 2010 at 4:09 PM #

Just noticed that it hasn’t pulled any or my recent tweets through the plugin. http://www.gbrenna.com ?

    • Creativeblogger December 1, 2010 at 9:46 PM #

I noticed the same thing when I first implemented it, Graham – it refreshed overnight though … not sure if it takes a while to fetch info or something, but it appears so.

  42. Creativeblogger December 1, 2010 at 9:51 PM #

This plugin is exceptionally simple, which is exactly what both publishers and readers need in the sidebar … but it doesn’t like my blog :( … haha!

By the sound of the comments above, it seems there is competing CSS from my theme that’s crippling the widget … it doesn’t fetch new tweets and balks when attempting to select a new tab (however, when clicking anywhere else a second time the tab loads).

    Can anyone help?

    • John Saddington December 2, 2010 at 11:39 PM #

did you get teh new one?.

  43. Jeremy December 2, 2010 at 8:18 PM #

    • John Saddington December 2, 2010 at 11:38 PM #

looks like an issue with twitter. let me know if it corrects itself.

if not, change this on line 103:

      1
      <?php if($twitter_user && sizeof($twitter) > 0):?>
      • Jeremy December 3, 2010 at 9:37 AM #

It did correct itself! Working perfectly now! Thanks for making such a nicely designed plugin! Minimalist design aesthetic is harder to find than it should be.

        • John Saddington January 3, 2011 at 9:02 PM #

          sure thing jeremy!

  45. Alzea December 8, 2010 at 2:37 AM #

hmm. i’d have to take a look.

  55. ThatGuyKC January 4, 2011 at 12:35 AM #

    Jon,
I love the social plugin and installed it on my new blog (www.somewiseguy.com launching 1/11/11). Trouble is, I can’t seem to get the plugin to display like yours without the Twitter profile name preceding every tweet. I’m using the most current version (1.2).

    Thoughts?
Also, I like the social sharing plugin you’ve got floating on the right. Which one is it?

    • John Saddington January 4, 2011 at 2:25 PM #

social sharing is built into standard theme. you can not have the avatar show via the plugin.

  56. Dan Foster January 8, 2011 at 1:34 AM #

Any chance you will release your Twitter + Feedburner plugin – widget? Love to be able to get that one.

    • John Saddington January 9, 2011 at 12:56 PM #

yes. definitely releasing that one. it’s part of the standardtheme though, so you can get it there.

      • Brian Sloan January 10, 2011 at 10:01 PM #

New blogger enjoying your site. Love the way the social sharing plugin looks. Installed it yesterday but it hasn’t shown any of my tweets today, only the ones from yesterday. Reinstalled but still the same. Ideas?

        • John Saddington January 11, 2011 at 11:06 AM #

          hmm. how about today?

          • Brian Sloan January 11, 2011 at 11:22 AM #

Today it displayed a tweet from last night, so it does receive them but it takes several hours to post to the plugin after I tweet. this AM I put the plugin from the twitter website on the sidebar also to compare, and am receiving those immediately. Probably something I’m missing. thx.

            • John Saddington January 11, 2011 at 11:33 AM #

              k. good to know. i’m re-building this plugin from the ground up… so i’ll let you know.

              • Brian Sloan January 11, 2011 at 11:46 AM #

Thanks, I haven’t officially launched the blog yet, probably a couple of weeks. Love your blog. I’m a full time worship pastor and part time local Board of Education member who loves to write. Maybe I should just switch to Standard Theme, but since I’m new at this, I was afraid it was over my head. But on your demo video, it seems fairly simple.

                • John Saddington January 11, 2011 at 3:15 PM #

it is! let me know if you need anything!

  57. Mahesh January 12, 2011 at 1:51 AM #

  61. rick April 5, 2011 at 6:50 AM #

    hey!

firstly thank you for your widget, it rocks!

quick question – by default it shows up with the twitter tab on top, is it possible to make the facebook tab the foremost by default?

also – what is the widget you have on your side bar which has tweet/fb shares/stumble/addthis?

    thanks again!!

    • John Saddington April 5, 2011 at 1:02 PM #

you can change that in the code if you’d like.

      • rick April 5, 2011 at 8:08 PM #

thank you! i’ll hunt around and figure it out…

is there a name for the sidebar widget you have?

  62. rick April 5, 2011 at 7:05 AM #

sorry hehe – one more – is there a way to remove the white border and change font colours? as i’m using a theme (Motion) which is quite dark adn uses a lot of transparencies

thanks again! really appreaciate your assistance ^__^

  63. steve April 20, 2011 at 5:45 PM #

I have added your widget which looks great, configured, tested with a test tweet and it worked, but today when i started adding some more tweets they aren’t being pulled through. All the settings are the same, is there ever any lag in time? do you have any ideas?

  64. Dan Sullivan April 21, 2011 at 12:16 PM #

Just to let you know, it looks like this plugin breaks the cufon font replacement on Elegant Themes. I couldn’t figure it out but I traced it down to this one. I’ll post again if I find a fix for it!

    Thanks-ds

Hi there, I love to get your plug-in installed on my site. Unfortunately I cannot get it to show up in the sidebar. FYI-I am using a custom template. I know the sidebar is widget-ready because I am able to insert other widgets. Is there a specific shortcode I am supposed to use? Here is the code I have:

    Let me know. Cheers!

    • John Saddington May 1, 2011 at 3:47 PM #

no, no shortcode required… that’s odd that it’s not showing up. do you have caching?

my blog sidebar was waiting for something like this..

  81. Jacob J. Morris April 5, 2012 at 3:35 PM #

Love the plugin. However, on the RSS tab, I think you need to add a “Subscribe to RSS” link at the bottom of the box, similar to what you do with the Twitter tab where you say “Follow Me”.

I don’t see how a user can actually subscribe to my RSS, they only see the links to articles, which are already on the blog.
