Whoot!
Are you seeing something a little bit different with the design here today? Oh yeah!
I’m so pumped to be working in the completely new Standard Theme, version 3! We worked through the migration in real-time last night over at The Work Spot and we had about 45 people show up, 20 people IRL and about 25 people online via our online broadcast!
What fun! We had door prizes, candy, and the ever-popular Chex Mix for snacks. Tom and Jared were on hand as well to share their thoughts about online publishing, design, and software development. Much thanks to Ray Ann who is the best host and coworking founder in Atlanta! She seriously rocks.
And if you’d like notes from Tom about what was covered as well as a few pictures and even the assets used, check it out!
Over the course of the next few weeks I’m going to be sharing a few of the subtle-yet-powerful changes that have been made on this blog as a result of this significant change.
You’ll appreciate what’s been changed as well as how you can apply some of these principles to your own blog.
If you’d like to read my initial thoughts and notes about Standard Theme, then read them here.
As I typically do, here’s a run-down of what it might look like:
- I Like My Blogs Fast. Always.
- The Power of Your Social Influence
- Keep the Plugin Count Low and Focus on What Matters
- The Value (and Use) of Post Formats in WordPress Themes
- 2 SEO Features that Provide A Lot of Value
- Google Authorship
- Design and Aesthetics
- What You Don’t Need and What You Do
- SEO Mechanics
- Simplifying the Publishing Process
- Social Sharing
- Pages and Templates
- Mobile and Responsive Design
I hope to “uncover” some of my own personal best practices and implementation methods for you guys to use yourself.
If you have any questions or anything you’d like covered, feel free to let me know in the comments! Appreciate you all!

ST 3 is a really nice Theme, John! Since weeks I´m working on my new Blog with ST 3 and it is so cool to work with. Good Job!
Hey John, the menu button doesn’t seem to work on my iphone. It could be just me or it’s the upgrade.
which menu button?
looking good. planning on upgrading soon!
I love ST 3! It looks great on your site. Very sharp and crisp. Been using it now on my own sites since release.
Nice, clean, and fast. Love the new subtle elements.
keeps it so so clean!
Love the look, much cleaner and easier to read.
It looks great, John. You the the 8Bit team are awesome!
I also like the new look to Tenblogger and I also am a big fan of the Standard Theme, I love it!
Good work! I always like to leave comments whenever I see something unusual or impressive. I think we must appreciate those who do something especial. Keep it up, thanks
John, your blog has been a blessing–it’s opened my eyes to a bunch of new ideas and concepts I wouldn’t have thought of on my own. I’m grateful.
I just had latest version of Standard installed on my blog and wondered if there is any way to click on the comments link at the top of the post and be taken right to the commenting box. Right now, when a reader clicks on that link, they are taken to all the comments that have been left before but they have to scroll down a ways (especially if there are a lot of comments) to get to the comment box itself. Anything that can be changed on that?
Thanks for all you do,
Becky
