Free WordPress Theme: ‘Starter’

I’m happy to announce the release my third free (GPL) TentBlogger-branded WordPress Theme to the general public.

Naturally, just like the first theme and the second one, this one’s focused on the same goal: Content, content, content!

But this one is cleverly named to help a new blog get a good “jump start” to their blogging efforts since it does focus purely on the content and not so much the design – can you say black and white?!

It’s got all the elements like the others with a backend admin panel for your use, stylized comment area, and a perfect area just below the content for social sharing (via Jetpack, which you should be using by the way):

Clean social sharing via Jetpack.

Oooooh. So nice.

Demo and Download:

You can try it out here or download it below as well!

Enjoy! Based on lines theme. Let me know if you have any comments, questions, or… whatever!

Awesome. Helvetica Neue, in the title? I’m using that on my site. Got any tips on how to make my titles the same using helvetica neue for users that dont have that font on their machine?

    Great clean look John!!

I love the social sharing icons! Is that built into the theme? And activated through Jetpack? I love how that looks!

I gave it a try on another wordpress site I’ve got and it seems that the Blog Title and Post titles on front page are all H1 tags. On a single post pages there are two H1 tags. Can this be changed so that on the front page the blog title to H1 and the articles h2 and on a single article page the article title to be H1? This will help SEO I guess…

    • John Saddington June 29, 2011 at 6:51 AM #

I can definitely take a look into that. for now, you can change this here in line 15 of single.php:

      1
      <h2><a href="<?php the_permalink() ?>" rel="bookmark" title="Permanent Link to <?php the_title_attribute(); ?>"><?php the_title(); ?></a></h2>

The theme is great for a technical blog as the other site is and I’m trying to use the theme. It looks great if you add pictures and indeed, the content stands out in your theme but using the theme I don’t want to mess up withe the H1 and h2 tags.
I want, on single post pages to be able to use the article title as H1 and on the front page the site title wrapped into a H1 tag and the rest of the articles titles into h2 tag.
If you can achieve this would be great!

ah. you could change that in the index.php file. relatively same place.

  11. Zimbrul June 29, 2011 at 10:50 AM #

Thanks for advice but this will make on single post page the blog title to become H1 not the title of the article…

    • John Saddington June 29, 2011 at 10:58 AM #

i’m sorry, you want h2′s on post titles on the index, right? and h1′s on the post title on the single layer?

  12. Zimbrul June 29, 2011 at 11:04 AM #

    Correct!
On Front Page: H1-Blog Title and H2-Article titles
on Single post: H1-Article title and H2-h2 headlines if at all present
    :-)

    Hi John,

Have a look at this link: http://goo.gl/hEqJ2
This is the place where I’ve decided to use the theme and it still does have 2 H1 tags on a single article page which is not fancied by the search engines…
On Front Page looks OK to me, the title tags work fine.

    Thanks

<3 your themes. I'm using slightly modified versions of 'Content' on the two sites I manage.

I am in the process of starting a blog and have been looking all day for a theme that I really liked and thought would benefit my site. After finding this theme I instantly knew that it was the theme for me. Great job!!

Super nice theme! Simple and clean! :-) I’m trying to make a page with child pages, is that possible with this theme? I can’t seem to make it work. I usually just create a page and put a parent page over it.

What is the ideal size for the custom header image? Thanks!
