Stood Up

Doh. So lonely.

So, what is your “official” policy as it relates to being stood up?

Do you typically give people the benefit of the doubt and give them another shot at scheduling another time to meet at their convenience? Or do you have a 1 strike and you’re out type of policy?

Grrr.

Regardless, it sucks. I think I’m leaning more in the middle somewhat but if you stand me up you’re in the back of the line (and it’s a long line).

To put it in computer lingo, FIFO all the way (First In, First Out).

  1. It depends who it is I think. Some people never learn…

  2. Saw your tweet. It’s frustrating and disappointing…been there, done that. I have a very close friend who has stood me up more than once…but we continue to be good friends. I just approach it differently now. I have come to not expect certain things…even if he says he’s going to do something, I always know it may not turn out as he has intended.

Professionally, I usually give them about 20 minutes and then I call. If I can’t reach them, I don’t initiate any further contact until they contact me. If there is a good excuse, we’ll simply reschedule and go from there. If it was just irresponsibility, I will give them another chance. After that, I’m done.

  3. I had followed your stood up posts this morning, and though a lot about how people take it for granted these times of connecting in person (meatspace). I attempt at all cost to notify people and expect the same from them, if I can’t show. I have had a few friends that chronically do this and it builds a statement that they don’t value their friends. I think it goes back to being as good as our word. If we say we are going to do something then we need to do it. Yes, there are times when we can’t control our schedule but most times it comes down to poor scheduling or saying yes to too much. Thanks for being transparent here.

  4. Next time you’re in Wichita, you can rest assured that there I’ll be there bro.

  5. I’d never stand you up!

    Shake the hatas off….

  6. i’m not a hater!! i’m sorry john!! i would never intentionally stand you up!
