A friend, Peter Pollock, just recently published his book, Web Hosting for Dummies, via Wiley Publishers and I’m proud to be a part of this publication as the Technical Editor.

soundcloud

There’s something about Soundcloud that really intrigues me. I think it’s a technology and community that could end up being vastly more disruptive than what the founders had anticipated or set out to do.

With over 38M users and about 5% of them “Pro” subscribers ($38 per year USD) it could be a $72M a year business (although Forbes cite it’s a third of that, with around $20M in sales last year). Profitability isn’t my point though because I’m sure it’ll continue to scale quite nicely.

Imogen Heap is amazing. This blew my mind. If you have 20 minutes to spare you must watch this. I was literally enthralled by not only her performance but her description of the technology and how she came about it and developed it.

dropbox-before-after

I’ve shared a little while back that my family is going through a significant period where we are reducing the amount of “stuff” in our lives to an extreme.

For my own part I’m removing a bunch of subscription services that I do not have to have, even applications that I really really really like, such as Dropbox.

gumroad-1

Have you seen or tried Gumroad?

It’s an incredibly-simple way to sell almost anything. The interface is beautiful and intuitive and setting up shop is one of the easiest and most-pleasant experiences I’ve ever had.

In fact, I was planning on migrating to their system for my eBooks until I retired them all recently. Look at these screenshots of the entire back-end and front-end experience to get an idea of how it works:
