Once again, you’re cookin’ up another sweet plugin. “Really” love the Categories plugin you created recently.

Love it man – another wordpress plugin review a-coming!

    • Matthew Snider May 6, 2011 at 9:19 AM #

How can I limit it to 5 posts instead of ten?

      • Matthew Snider May 6, 2011 at 9:24 AM #

Solved it – Open up widget.php and change 10 to 5. It’s that simple.

Thanks Matt, I was about to ask the same question. Oh, and thank you too John for making this plugin available. It look looks great on the the site.

ah. not a setting right now. but you can, of course, modify the plugin yourself. very simple.

Downloading and installing now. Thanks John!

Looks Great. Can you limit by category?

Also where is it determining the traffic from? Its list of top posts are different from both WP stats and Google Analytics.

    • John Saddington May 6, 2011 at 11:33 AM #

adam, this is based on comments.

    • John Saddington May 6, 2011 at 11:33 AM #

we might create one that is based on traffic… or add that feature.

      • JD Eddins May 6, 2011 at 12:35 PM #

I think that would be great addition. One thought that i had as I was install this plugin was if I would continue to do a review at the end of each month of the top 10 posts, but since I base it off of pageviews I feel that this approach gives me the opportunity to highlight 2 different (though not completely different) sets of posts.

  9. Dylan Dodson May 7, 2011 at 11:25 AM #

I installed the plugin. Unfortunately, when I set it up for “all time” it is quite inaccurate as to what my most viewed posts really are (it doesn’t even have my most viewed post of all time on the list).

Also, I wonder if you coud set up the “monthly” option to more like a past 30 days rather than the current month. Only because at the beginning of each month there will only be a couple of blogs on the list. Just a thought!

Don’t know how I missed this post… better late than never! Thanks again for releasing the most AWESOMESAUCE, FREE content ever!

  11. Thnok May 9, 2011 at 2:28 AM #

Hey great plugin!! Any chance adding the ability to display the thumbnail of the recent post as well?

    • John Saddington May 9, 2011 at 9:53 AM #

i could think about it. great idea.

      • Thnok May 9, 2011 at 9:58 AM #

Great thanks!!! Btw can you consider creating a PHP code or some way to use the plugin outside the widget section?

If you could visit trinitylk.com I have replaced the tabs which came with theme with plugins.
The recent tab was replaced by a plugin called special recent posts and I want to replace the popular tab with your plugin.

Nice plugin ! Downloading and installing now.
    Thank you, Jhon

  13. Tony LaMarca May 12, 2011 at 3:29 PM #

One thing I’d like to see is a top posts widget organized by hits rather than comments.

    This is pretty sweet though.

  14. David June 8, 2011 at 10:43 AM #

Hi, Know this is a little late but wondered if you could update the plugin to either remove the target=_blank element of the link (I removed it myself in the plugin editor) or make it an option?
I didn’t really want to create a new browser window each time someone clicked on one of the top posts.
Great plug-in by the way. Thanks.
    David.

    Can you help me !?
I don’t want use plugin ,Can you give for me code be added theme directly .

    • John Saddington June 27, 2011 at 12:24 AM #

i currently don’t offer this support… but you could do some searching for some basic php lessons!

    Hi John,
I love your plugins, however I have a small issue with “top posts” and “top commenters”. I use the Suffusion theme and if I check “hide total comments” on Top Commenters or in any case with “Top Posts” it kinda looks strange, with a bunch of polka dots behind the list of top posts/commenters.

Do you know how I could fix this, so I can use both and in a way that they don’t look ugly?

    • John Saddington July 5, 2011 at 12:07 PM #

ah, you may have to spend some time styling it for your blog theme.

      • David July 5, 2011 at 12:09 PM #

How do I do that? There are no options for those two plugins. :-(

        • John Saddington July 5, 2011 at 2:06 PM #

oh, you’d have to do that yourself… no options in it… yet.

          • David July 5, 2011 at 2:20 PM #

I’m confused, I’m supposed to do what myself then?

Maybe you misunderstood me. I don’t want the plugins to look a special way, I want them to look the way they’re supposed to. Except that they don’t.

The “top post” never does, and the “top commenters” look normal only if I uncheck “hide total comments”.
I just checked it so that you can see what I mean, if you want to take a look: http://ogijima.com

Now, if you don’t want to or don’t have time to see what’s wrong, no big deal, I can do without them, I just thought you’d like to know of any bug.

            • John Saddington July 5, 2011 at 3:16 PM #

              don’t see the plugin active?

              • David July 5, 2011 at 3:33 PM #

“Top commenters” is in between the badge that says “Ogijima in French” and the one that says “Blog4Japan”.

                • John Saddington July 7, 2011 at 11:48 AM #

                  david,

the plugin inherits some styling. we’ll look to extract it out on an update.

                  ;)

I is working on my site, can you tell me how to include it manually in my sidebar … both by day, month and year.
As well as well, including my own css

  18. Rodrigo November 3, 2011 at 10:22 PM #

    How yo increase width?! In .css .tentblogger-top-posts-widget-wrapper select { margin-bottom: 1em; width: 200%; }
“200%” is a default value.. but I increase this number but get the same results..

    Somone can help me?!

    • John Saddington November 7, 2011 at 10:42 AM #

you could do it through the editor or a code editor. can you do this?

  19. Mike November 14, 2011 at 12:34 AM #

    Hey John,
Just want to thank you again for your site and plug-ins. Using them as with Standard Theme as fast as I can understand them and having a blast.

I find your site easy to understand and the directions are great. Keep up the great work!

    • John Saddington November 14, 2011 at 2:09 PM #

sure thing! thanks for your support! let others know about it!

  20. Dustin W. Stout December 6, 2011 at 1:08 PM #

I finally got around to doing some minor styling for this & it looks/works great! Thanks again John!

Is there any way to exclude certain posts? I want to do the ‘All Time’ option, but there are a couple posts that show up which are completely irrelevant now. The only way I can think of is to start deleting comments on those posts… And I really don’t wanna do that.

    • John Saddington December 9, 2011 at 3:16 PM #

you could do that… but they become irrelevant so quickly (after 30 days)?

      • Dustin W. Stout December 9, 2011 at 5:20 PM #

Well it’s really only one post that reigns in all time comments on my blog & it was the “Get An Invite To Google+” post where if people commented, I would send them an invite… Over 200 comments. So, yeah… No longer relevant, and none of my other blogs have come close to that many comments.
