Being Peacefully-Unsatisfied with Your Blog

August 23, 2011 — 26 Comments

Roenne's first day at her new preschool. Last year before Kindergarden!

Wow. I can’t believe how quickly August has flown by…! We’re already starting the school season (for many of us) and finding the rhythm that we thought we had lost over the summer break.

For some of us this is the time for some “new beginnings” and for others it’s just the same ol’ same ol’… just another part of the calendar year.

For myself I try to see every moment as a new opportunity to start something new even if the “something new” is still a bit of the old. Call it an attitude perspective or just semantics perhaps but it keeps me thinking fresh and keeps me moving forward.

Sometimes that’s really the character and quality of our blogs, you know? At times we see our blogs as all shiny and new and at other times (or perhaps at the same time) we see them as the same-old-thing-but-a-different-day; our challenge is to see our blogs in a much bigger context; our challenge is to see our blogs as vehicles for life-giving information.

You may not think that people are reading your blog (or that not enough people are reading your blog) but it’s exactly where it’s supposed to be, this time, on this day, at this very hour. Be peacefully-unsatisfied, if that makes sense, knowing that it’s ok where you are but you know where you’re headed and what you hope it will be.

I plan on taking Roenne to school everyday via the Jogger! Workout!

I’m peacefully-unsatisfied with my blog, just as I am with life and my two daughters, both of whom are growing up way too fast. My oldest just started a new preschool yesterday and I snapped a few pics before I let her go  - I’m at peace that she’s maturing well and growing into a beautiful girl and woman but unsatisfied with how fast it’s happening!

I hope you can come to terms with this perspective and rejoice in it – besides, there’s not much we can do anyways, right? Let’s press on and build amazing blogs and communities together.

Hope you’re having a great week and I’ll see you guys online!

  1. Good phrase, “peacefully-unsatisfied.” It’s the stuff of ambition.

  2. This was a great post for me to read today… my blog has had a really slow week, views wise, and I am trying to stay positive and be excited that I posted my first vlog today… and that in the next few weeks I will be switching everything over to wordpress.org (hurray!!!) and getting myself Standard Theme as well!! All good things! Until then… trying to stay peacefully-unsatisfied. :) Thanks John!

  3. I relate it to my faith. My job is just to be a steward – to act faithfully with what I’m given. The results aren’t really in my hands, just the actions that I can take.

  4. “Peacefully unsatisfied” is a great phrase for the perfect state of being. It can be awfully hard sometimes to be happy with what we have without being overly complacent. Appreciating what makes you happy while still being aware of the need to strive for betterment is a state we should all work toward. Thanks for a reminder that it’s okay to be content and okay to want more…all at the same time. Have a rockin’ day!

  5. Yes, God is in control of everything in this universe…which includes our blog’s traffic.

  6. In life, there are things we can control and things we can’t control. Our children growing up is certainly the latter! And also, of course, how many people flock to our blogs :P I remember when my daughter was that age, and ‘letting her go’ to pre-school that first day gave me knots in my stomach! Now she’s finishing jr. high school, and my son is already starting highschool. So yes, they grow up too fast. But you can certainly thank God for each day you’re around to see them grow… and that they keep growing as well! (And your blog, too!)

    This about sums up life:

“knowing that it’s ok where you are but you know where you’re headed and what you hope it will be.”

Good thoughts. Enjoy the kids. I’ve been dropping my oldest off every morning on the way to work. That 15 minutes has been and will be a highlight of life.

  8. Just what I needed to read today. I’ve been so busy between the two jobs I have that I haven’t had much time to write and It’s been nagging at me a bit. This too shall pass… :)

  9. I swear I couldn’t of said it any better.

There are times I log on to my blog and just go, why?… But, the focus is to stay positive and strong, or how you magnificently put it: peacefully-unsatisfied. Nice.

  10. Aww Roenne is certainly very cute! Life does seem to go by way too fast…. I can’t believe how fast I am aging. It does seem like we all keep demanding more.. and more… out of our blogs. I know I do…

  11. I needed this today! It’s so easy to get caught up in the numbers. But to see our blogs as “vehicles for life-giving information” while striving for excellence–and trusting Him to drive the right traffic at the right time? I can rest in that and in being peacefully unsatisfied.

And that Roenne–absolutely precious! What a sweet smile. She just lights up the whole photo!

  12. Thanks for this reminder. Needed a little encouragement today as I saw my numbers dip this week even though I have been publishing content everyday for the last couple of weeks.
