A Kind Reminder: Make Sure to Update Your About Page!

October 30, 2012 — 12 Comments

I spent the entire morning updating my About Page, significantly.

I haven’t updated that page in months – in fact, the last time I touched it significantly was in January (although I edited something small in April). I need to take a bit of my own medicine as I have told many people that editing and curating your About Page is something that needs to be done constantly!

Whoops.

So here is your kind reminder to go to your About page and update some of the (very) outdated information as well as add a few things that have happened since you last touched it. Don’t just say “John, that’s a fantabulous idea!” and then never get around to it – do it by the end of the week, put it on the calendar, and then comment below with a link to your About page!

A Few Thoughts About This Update…

This update was much more personal that I’ve ever done and it dramatically changed the explicit intention of this blog, although those that have been following for some time have already realized that.

Our lives are constantly changing, re-arranging, and opportunities come and go as quickly as water. And even if you don’t believe that to be true then it’s quite possible you’re not paying enough attentino.

I’ve also changed my tagline a bit to simply Entrepreneurship; the Pursuit (changed it again… made it more simple.) I’m not sure how I feel about it but it’ll do for now. The reason for this is because this is most simply what I do and have done every single day of my life – I’ve been in pursuit of things, people, ideas, hopes, and dreams.

Entrepreneurship is simply the pursuit of opportunity without regard to resources currently controlled – there are few better descriptions of my life than that (thanks Howard Stevenson!).

I also changed a few things on my branding page to reflect a few of these changes on my About Page – creating a bit of consistency around the board, right?

It was time to let go of a few things as well. I can no longer promise that every single blog post will be about the incredible art, science, and method of blogging but I can promise that I’ll do my best to at least create some value for you, my faithful readers.

  1. Love the redo man, shows a bit more into who you more than just an awesome blogger!

  2. I just updated our “About Page”, something I haven’t done since I started the blog. http://practical-stewardship.com/about-us-2/ May the Lord bless your faithfulness. Thank you for the kind reminder!

  3. Thank you for the reminder, I updated my About Me page about 2 months ago. I know you said it should be done constantly, but how often is that? Every month, every other month, 2-3 times a year?

  4. “John, that is a fantabulous idea!” (you knew someone was going to do that, right!?)
Thanks for the reminder. I really need to do this as I’ve been shifting the focus of my content to a more defined niche. I’m sure the people who visit me for the first time have no idea what I’m really trying to accomplish.

  5. Hi John, cool blog. I was googling how to embed HD YouTube video but seems you’re as puzzled as me :) Clicked on your homepage to find this post. I wrote this a few months back which have had lots of positive feedback on and may resonate :)

  6. I haven’t updated my about us page since I put up my blog. I need to get more focused in this area. Thanks for that reminder bro.

  7. A great idea for something that should be done regularly. Problem is I have been on a writing spell lately, not writing much and trying to figure out what direction to take with my blog. I feel the need to review content to match my current situation (unemployed grandma, lol) but not sure of the approach. Thanks for at least making me think about it.

  8. Good stuff John! Love how you are always leading the way in creativity. I added a form like you! Plus I was able to get a radio interview so people can listen instead of read!

  9. Well I just launched my site recently and modifying it as it grows. Have been reading TentBlogger since you launched a while ago with full intentions of launching my own blog, but life happened and I just couldn’t give it the time needed. Well I have changed some of that and have launched and loving it just trying to build my reader base, and trying to add content at least every other day. Of course I have used a ton of your tips and hopefully have used them well or will be soon.
Thanks for all the amazing knowledge.

  10. I think I will have to mark my calendar once a month to just reread and update my about page!

  11. I like the list approach. It’s easy to skim and focus in on the information that is most relevant to me. I just launched my blog so my about page is new, but I’m still brainstorming how to present it in the best way possible.
